What kind of grade hair do you have?

It’s been almost a year since I decided to ditch the relaxer. I don’t normally do monthly length checks or anything.  But, I do have a general idea of how long my hair has grown over the last 11 months months.  Right now, it’s about five inches or so.  Braid-outs have become my style of choice.

Aside from the big change in length, I’ve had to grow accustom to my natural texture.  It’s taken me years to feel this comfortable about my tightly coiled curls.  It’s super fragile and can break very easily.  But with the right care, it has the potential to grow just like any other hair type.  Through careful research and trial and error, I’ve learned so much.  However, sharing my experience with other ladies in my shoes is where I find support through this journey.

Like how most guys love chatting about sports, we love yapping about our hair and the products we use.  I find it interesting that some women don’t embrace their natural texture.  Some would go as far as comparing their own texture to another person.  I’ve heard people say, “She got that good grade of hair. I wish I had hair like that.”  I can’t exactly hate on them for thinking that though.  Long before I decided to transition, I used to feel that way too.  I remember hearing my hairdresser compare my hair to my sister’s, and I hated it.  In fact, I grew to dislike my hair and found myself always yearning to have thick straight hair.  I thought the relaxer would cover up my insecurities.  Boy, was I wrong.  It made it worse. Fast forward to now, I couldn’t be happier with my hair in its natural state.  I’ve learned to embrace every strand on my head.  I don’t envy other women with loose curls, straight, or wavy hair.  As long as I have healthy hair, that’s all that matters.  For all you ladies out there who wish for that “good grade of hair,” just look in the mirror.

Yes we’ve all been almost brain washed about our hair. My girls are both transitioning and accepts their natural hair. I did it to them, they both had very nice, thick hair and of course I had to slap that relaxer on their hair. I’m hoping they keep their positive attitudes about wearing their natural hair.

I have worn relaxers and sew ins & I love both. The sew in is for covienence. I teach so many classes that wearing my relaxer would be too tough to manage and I don’t even want to think about it being natural. I always hope for women to embrace whatever they are blessed with physically though. I’m glad you’re enjoying the natural journey. My mother went natural almost two years ago and her hair has grown a lot.

I’m also commenting to let you know of the useful discovery my girl went through reading through your web site. She learned several pieces, which included what it is like to have a very effective giving spirit to let many people with no trouble thoroughly grasp chosen problematic things. You truly surpassed my expected results. I appreciate you for delivering those informative, dependable, explanatory as well as cool guidance on that topic to Mary.
