Should You Plan to Start a Family?

It’s funny how my life has changed in a matter of a couple of years. It wasn’t long ago that having children was the furthest thing from my mind. I remember people asking my hubby and I, “When do you guys plan on starting a family?” We’d always give the polite answer, “We’re not ready.”

I must admit it did get annoying. But, we weren’t living our lives to please everyone. We just wanted to make sure that we had everything in place. There’s nothing wrong with that, right? Some may say that there’s no such thing as ‘planning to have children.’ In fact, many people told us that. But, I beg to differ. I’m not just talking financially prepared, although it’s extremely important. I’m referring to making sure that we were mentally ready to take on such a huge responsibility.

Before having Princess, it was all about career, enjoying each other, and building a foundation. My hubby and I have been successful at achieving that. It took a few years, but we eventually decided it was time.

Ever since we welcomed Princess into our lives, there’s been no turning back. In just a few short months our family will grow from three to four, and we couldn’t be more excited. Ok, I’ll admit it did take a while to get used to the idea. But now, I couldn’t be happier. We’ll continue to set more goals to attain as a family.

Even though our second baby came at a surprise, I’m so glad that we planned to start a family.

For now, I’m just enjoying the spot we’re in. So whenever people ask, “When it the right time to start a family,” I usually tell them to figure out when it’s right for you. It’s also important to never let someone force you into having a child, if you’re not ready. Starting a family is a huge undertaking. Your life will change, and preparation is key.
