Curly Hairstyle of the Week: 4th of July Star on Biracial Hair

We are a multicultural family and it’s important to honor our heritage. Teaching our kids about their history is something that we work towards every day. Whether it’s talking to them about various customs or foods, we try to infuse it all into how we raise our kids.

As you can imagine, hair is a huge part of our culture as well. From Jamaican Cornrows to the Celtic knot, there are so many different hairstyles to reflect our heritage. As we celebrate 4th of July, I want to carry on that same sentiment. So, for our curly hairstyle of the week, we decided to do a 4th of July Star on my daughter’s biracial hair.

We have a pretty busy weekend filled with water play, BBQ, and a Independence Day Parade. Times like this Princess would rather have her hair back and out of her face.

I write about how we manage to piece this style together using CurlyKids® Curly Gel Moisturizer at CurlyKidsHaircare.com

There are a few ways to do this style. We tried it with twists, as you can see in the video. But, my favorite is the braided version from the photo above. It makes the star hairdo a bit more visible.

We also wanted to add a cute 4th of July hair accessory, which was tough considering they were all sold out everywhere. So, we made our own. I happened to have some left over red ribbon from a craft we did a while back. I cut about 10-12 inches off for each back ponytail, added beads on either side, and secured them with a knot.
