WAM Turning 2!

This month marks my two-year blogversary! Whoo Hoo!
 photo 2_zps72a4e06d.jpg

I started this blog as a way of documenting my journey of balancing career and motherhood. I really didn’t know what to expect. Would people read it? Would I get lazy and give up? As it turns out, it’s probably one of the best things I’ve ever done. It offers priceless memories for my family and me.

I remember celebrating my one year blogversary last year. I listed five goals that I wanted to achieve, and I’m happy to say that I accomplished all but one. The only thing that I couldn’t check off my list was taking a photography class. However, I  my pictures continue to get better with practice. I’m not terrible for an amateur.

As far as gaining followers, I try not to focus on that too much. Don’t get it twisted, I love and appreciate every single reader I have. What makes me happy is when I get an email from someone telling me how much I’ve inspired them.

Hosting more giveaways and guest blogging were also on the list. In fact, I’m hosting a giveaway now on BabyCenter. If you haven’t checked out any of my posts, please do. I enjoy sharing my mommy triumphs and conundrums.

Lastly, I was happy to have attended my first conference ever! Blogher 2012 was a hit, and I hope to attend more conferences in the future.

This year I want to continue growing my blog. It’s taken on a life of it’s own, and I’m excited. I’m not sure if you’ve notice, but I revamped my site a bit. I didn’t want to change the layout too much. However, I wanted to change hosts. The best advice I’ve ever gotten from “The Sits Girls” is to own your own ‘sh**!’ I’ve taken their advice and have never looked back. They were so gracious to feature me on their blog as well.

In the meantime, I’ll continue working on my pregnancy diaries, as I wait to welcome baby number two. I’m hoping to turn this diary into a book. I’m all about making lasting memories for my kids.

There’s also another project that I plan on tackling. It’s a pretty big undertaking. But, I’m gonna try and do the best I can. I’ll be sure to fill you in on all the details later.

Thanks so much for all your continued support.

Happy Birthday Princess!

I apologize in advance for being super annoying.  This will be the first of quite a few post about Princess celebrating the big two.  I’m just a proud mama.  What can I say?  A part of me feels bad for sending her off to daycare on her birthday.  But, my hubby and I had to finish up her party plans.  Having Princess with us would sort of ruin the surprise (trust me, she remembers everything).

We spent a huge part of the day just running errands and putting her present together.  Before we knew it,  the clock struck five o’clock.  We wanted to eat dinner and enjoy some outdoor fun, so we picked her up little early.  Then it was off to the park!

Grandma also came over to hang and drop off Princess’s gift, a Dora the Explorer doll and stoller.  We had tons a fun!

I saw this online and had to get it for her. I’ve always wanted something like this as a kid. I guess you can say I’m living vicariously through my daughter.  She mainly likes to go in reverse, as you can see.

Stay tuned for more pics!

My Baby’s About to Turn 2!

I can’t believe my baby is about to be two years old tomorrow!  It’s crazy how time flies!  I can recall feverishly planning her first year birthday party around this time last year.  In case you haven’t seen it, here’s the video  and recap of her 1st year bash.

This time around my hubby and I would like to keep things a bit more kid friendly.  We’re planning a celebration for Princess and her friends to enjoy.  I’ll be sharing pics, and tips on how we (I) planned the event.  For us, it’s all about keeping it simple and fun.  I’m also working on another video.  Stay tuned for that too!

Princess weeks away from turning 2. She’s always loved playing on this field.

She wasn’t quite walking on her own.  But, she’d hang onto things to guide her along.

My little girl is growing up, and this moment is bitter sweet.  Sometimes I wish she’d stay this way forever.  How do you feel about your kiddos getting older?

Happy Blogversary To Me!

source

I told my hubby “it’s my anniversary” and he looked at me like I was crazy.  He finally got it when I said “it’s my blogversary,” hence the weird title.

I can’t believe it’s been a year!  I never thought I’d have a blog.  My first post explains why.  I really didn’t know what to expect.  But, I’m pleasantly surprised at the positive feedback that I’ve received.  Someone told me that they were inspired by my nursing diaries.  Whenever I here those words, “I love your blog,” I get so excited.  On the flip side, I didn’t know how difficult blogging could be.

I thought writing a post would be a no brainer, but sometimes I struggle to gather my thoughts.  I also wonder whether or not I’m being too personal.  The internet could be a great place to connect.  But, it could also be scary.  I worry if something I’ve written would ever come back to bite me in the you know what.  Overall, it’s been a great experience.  My blog has been a great tool in keeping in contact with family and friends.  It’s been my escape and my place to vent.  Most importantly, Princess will one day read this blog.  I hope that by documenting my journey to balance career and motherhood (along with so many other things), she’ll get to know her mama in a different way.  She’ll know that her mama was determined at giving her the best life ever.

I look forward to many more years of blogging.  Here’s what I hope to accomplish within the next year.

1.  I hope to gain more followers.  My goal was to get 100 followers in a year or less.  But, 91 ain’t too bad.  If you haven’t joined my site yet, please do.  All ya gotta do is click that blue button that says ‘join this site’ to the right and follow the simple directions from there.  You can also follow by email.  While your at it, connect with  me on twitter, pinterest, vimeo, facebook, youtube, and google +.  Princess also has a tumblr account, in case you want to follow that too. Btw, she doesn’t know that I know about it.
2. Host more giveaways.  I never wanted my blog to be all about prizes.  But, I would like show my readers how much I value them.  So far, I’ve given away tickets to Madam Tussauds, a gift card Target, makeup, and some fab earrings.
3.  I would love to keep writing for other blogs.  I’ve done some guest posts for Baby Center and Snugabell so far.
4.  Hit up some conferences.  I’ve already signed up for Blogher and I can’t wait to go, and meet other bloggers.
5.  Keep blogging, and post great pics!  I need help in the photography department.  I may just have to take a class.

I want to thank everyone for visiting Weather Anchor Mama.  I appreciate all the feedback and advice that I get.  So, keep ‘em coming.  What you like/dislike about my blog?  I’m a big girl.  I can take the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Princess’s 1st Birthday Celebration

The weather will be taking a turn for the worse as Hurrican Irene moves up the east coast, I am so happy that my hubby and I scheduled Princess’s birthday celebration last week.  Had it been a week later, we would be in serious trouble.  The weather was perfect last Saturday.  Although it was a bit breezy, there was plenty of sunshine.  Outside conditions held up just fine, but the day turned out to pretty interesting.

Fun, exciting, anxious, stressful are just some of the words I can drum up to describe it.  As I mentioned, Princess turned one last week.  We decided to celebrate by having a princess themed get together on Saturday.  I’ve planned a wedding and small gatherings, but I have never planned a 1st birthday bash.

I spent the last two months or so planning the event, so I thought it would be an easy breezy day.  Boy, was I wrong.  My hubby and I hadn’t even begun to set anything up!  We had to cancel Princess’s afternoon swim class for the day and haul ass.  I called in Aunt Tiff (aka Princess’s Godmama) to help out.  She came over to  assist with cleaning all the chairs, decorating, getting the favors ready, hanging the banner, and picking up the balloons.  We were racing against the clock!  The party was set to begin at 3 PM and it was already noon!  We managed to get everything done, but our trip to Party City was interesting to say the least.  We picked out yellow, pink, and white latex balloons.  I also added a cute Princess first birthday mylar balloon as well.
Making the purchase wasn’t the problem.  But, getting it all in the car was a whole other story.

One balloon got away and another one popped.  We were scrambling trying not to lose anymore, when a lady and her young daughter saw us and rushed over to help us.  In fact, she offered hold some balloons in her car and follow us home.  Normally I wouldn’t do this, but we were desperate.  My gut said “roll with it.” We were able to replace those lost balloons and our new travel buddies, Michelle and Alexis, followed us home.  We often hear about the negative things people do in the world, but we rarely hear about the positive things.  It’s refreshing when good people do good things.  I just had to snap this quick pic of us.

Everything came together in the end.  My sis came over with all the food she and my mom prepared (thanks again mom and sis!).  The fam came over and everyone had a great time.  I was caught up in having a perfect birthday celebration for my little Princess, but the most important thing was my baby’s happiness and having the people we love share in this special occasion.

As you can see Princess had a blast hangin’ with her cousin Sean and Auntie Sophia.

There are so many great pics!  I can’t post them all, but I do plan on putting a video together.  I’ll be sure to post a preview.  Thanks to all my family and close friends who came out to share in my baby’s first birthday celebration.

Happy Birthday Princess!!!

I can’t believe it’s been a year!  My baby girl turned one at exactly 9:11 PM Wednesday.  I am so happy and I feel so blessed to have her in my life.  I know that I may vent about her teething and sleeping issues.  But in all honesty, I wouldn’t trade being a mom for anything else in the world.  I remember when I went into labor.  It seems like yesterday.  I woke up around 4 AM to use the bathroom.  On my way there I yelled, “Uh-oh, Uh-oh!!! Honey!!!  MY WATER BROKE.”  My hubby is usually a slow mover, but he came flying out of the bed to see what was going on.  He wasted no time in cleaning up, while I jumped in the shower.  I guess reality didn’t quite set in because I called my mom, my mother in law, my boss of course, and I even texted some family members and a bunch of friends.  My hubby knocked a little sense in me and told me that we had to go to the hospital.  We grabbed the hospital bags and bounced.  By the time we got to the hospital, I still didn’t feel a thing.  My mom met us there and stayed with with us the entire time.  The nurse brought us into the pre-labor room and the doctor later came in to check if I was dilated.  It turned out I was only about one centimeter along.  I knew in that moment that we’d be in for a long day.

Hours later I still felt nothing.  No pain at all!  I thought to myself, “I may have the easiest labor in history!”  The nurse gave me cervidil (something that’s inserted in your va-jay-jay to soften the cervix and cause contractions).  It didn’t work.  I still felt nothing.  Then they gave me pitocin,  an IV medication which can also induce labor.  Well, that didn’t work either!  By this time I was moved to the labor and delivery room.  Not only was I not having contractions, I also wasn’t dilating.  They increased the dosage, and that did it.  Then the pain came with a vengeance!  Even though I was started to feel intense contractions, I still wasn’t further dilated .  I was told that in order to fully dilate, I had to relax through the pain.  But, how can anyone relax through excruciating pain??

I wanted to hold out on the epidural.  But at the rate I was going, the doc would have no choice but to do a c-section.  I would be at a higher risk of infection, if the baby didn’t arrive within 24 hours of my water being broken.  I was prone to infection and they didn’t want to risk something bad happening to my baby.  So, I gave in and got the epi.  I know that people may have their negative opinions on epidurals, but it was a life saver.  It had been hours and I was so exhausted.  I had worked through my entire pregnancy and as luck would have it, I went into labor just a few hours after coming home from work.  I was already missing out on sleep as a result of the pregnancy, add on a full time work schedule, and a couple of hours driving each day…you get my drift.  Getting some rest was like heaven.

Within a half hour of getting the epi, I went from being 5 centimeters dilated to a full blown 10 centimeters.  Then the doc said those magic words, “We’re ready to push!”  It only took another 20-30 minutes and my little Princess came right out.  I couldn’t believe it!

What a difference a year makes.  My baby girl is now one and I remember the day she came into the world like it was yesterday.  I see how much she’s grown and I couldn’t be more proud.  I remember when we first brought her home.  She never wanted to be put down.  We had to keep moving in order to keep her comfy.  She also loved being rocked to sleep with music playing.  To this day, she still likes being put to bed with MTV hits or VH-1 Soul on in the background.  She’s not crazy about cartoons, but she loves watching music videos!

As far as celebrating the big day, my hubby and I took off from work.  We wanted to spend the entire day with her, but we had to prepare for her weekend birthday soiree.  We did have some family time in the AM, and later in the evening.  She spent a few hours at daycare, and her teacher made this cool birthday hat and took this pic.  Princess clearly had a great day.

I couldn’t resist taking a few snapshots myself.

I’ll be posting a recap of her bday shindig, complete with pics.  Please be sure to check in again.

To my Princess…
I remember when you opened your eyes for the first time.  The sun was a bit too bright, but you were so curious and wanted to see the world.
I remember our first family stroll.  You were three weeks old and a bit fussy.  But, now you love the outdoors.  Daddy’s been taking you for walks everyday, as long as the weather holds up.
I remember your first shot.  You cried a little the first time, and I wanted to take the pain away.  But, you’ve gotten much better at it.  You haven’t cry for all the others, not even when you got your ears pierced.
I remember your first day at daycare.  I felt sad being away from you for the first time.
I remember when you started holding the bottle on your own.  You were only 4 months and held it so well.
I remember when you began sitting up on your own.  You had just turned 5 months!
I remember when you started eating solids.  You were about 5 months old.  I don’t think you were quite ready, so I ended up waiting a few more weeks before we tried again.  Now you eat like a champ!
I remember when you took your first crawl.  I had the camera ready to go for weeks because I wanted to get it on tape.  I missed it, but I’m so glad that your daddy was there to capture it.
I remember when you were baptized.  You didn’t cry at all during the ceremony.
I remember when you stood up for the first time.  I wasn’t there, but I heard all about it.  Soon you’ll be walking on your own.

I love you more than you know and I would do anything for you.  I enjoy each moment spent with you.  I cherish these memories and I can’t wait to spend many more birthdays with my little Princess.  There will be many more memories.  The best is yet to come!
