The Gift That Keeps Giving With Walmart Family Mobile

CB Disclosure White Background 400 px wide

I shared in a previous post my Mom’s reluctance to upgrading to a smart phone. Well, I took a chance and purchased the Walmart Family Mobile Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G smartphone for her this Christmas, hoping she finally would give it a try.

As I mentioned, my Mom has been stuck living in the 1900s. She still uses the same complimentary cell phone she received in the early 2000s from the phone company. I’ve tried to convince her to upgrade to a smart phone before, but she refused. Did I mention that she often watches the kids? This ancient phone she has makes it so hard to reach her.

As it turns out, Walmart Family Mobile is the lowest price rate plan that fits her needs. My Mom has never been big on receiving gifts, so I wasn’t expecting gleeful reaction. As you can probably tell by these photos, she didn’t see this coming.

The look on her face is priceless. Her exact words, “I have a phone already,” followed by, “you’re gonna have to show me how to use this.” She’s also surprised that it could take pictures. Finding out that she doesn’t have to commit to contract is the icing on the cake for her too. I guess she finds solace knowing that she can go back to her old phone, if she’s not happy with the upgrade. Now I’ll have to help her set everything up, including having an internet and texting lesson. This should be interesting.

Have you ever had to convince someone to purchase a smart phone? How did they react when they finally upgraded?

#ScentSavings: He by Usher is the Best Cologne for my Man

CB Disclosure White Background 400 px wide

With the holiday season in full swing, shopping for my hubby could be stressful. What does he need? If I buy this would he like it? These are just a couple of questions that run through my head when I’m at checkout line. I recently got an opportunity to review ‘He’ by Usher, and figured I’ll kill two birds with one stone. It’s the best cologne on the market right now.

We’re in the process of saving for a house, so we are on a tight budget. Walmart has everyday low prices for department store brands, so shopping there was a no brainer. As you can image there are tons of discounts for the holiday season. Shoppers can get a FREE Celebrity Voice ringtone with a gift set purchase. I’ve been an Usher fan for years so my choice is pretty obvious.

Getting there was a breeze, but finding a spot was a whole other ball game. I had to park two lots over and walk through the mall to get to Walmart! What a pain! However, the less that 30 bucks I paid for the fragrance was well worth it.

Ahhh. The smell is breathtaking. There’s a scratch and sniff sticker which allows you to smell the cologne. It’s a mixture of rustic and floral scents. The description sounds a bit feminine. But trust me, this fragrance is totally masculine. I can’t wait until my hubby tries this on.

The mall may have been packed. But this section of Walmart clearly wasn’t. I was in and out of there in a flash.

For Christmas present ideas, you can also check out this digital magazine to get great selections for the holiday, including Usher’s fragrance.

Is Walmart FamilyMobile the Best Wireless Plan for Mom?

CB Disclosure White Background 400 px wide

With wind chills in the 30s, the last thing I wanted to do was shop. However, when I received an opportunity to purchase and review the Walmart FamilyMobile Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G smartphone for #cbias, I couldn’t pass it up. It also lowest price rate plan I could find.

I told my hubby this would have to be a solo mission because there was no way I’d subject our kids to these bone chilling conditions, not to mention I wanted to be in and out of the store. Having kids in tow would mean triple the amount of time spent.

The plan was to cop the phone for my mom, along with the start up kit for Christmas. Most people would be over the moon to receive a gift like this. But, I’m not too sure about my mom. Don’t get me wrong; she would appreciate any gift I give her. But, the question is would she actually use it? You see, Mummy has been stuck living in the 1900s. She still uses the same complimentary cell phone she received in the early 2000 from the phone company. I’ve tried to convince her to upgrade to a smart phone before, but she wasn’t having it. “I only use it in case of an emergency,” she said.

#cbias #FamilyMobileSaves #shop

After some research, I found out that she’s been paying 44 bucks a month for 400 minutes free during the week with nights and weekends free. With the #FamilyMobileSaves, she’d only pay 40 dollars a month for unlimited talk, text, and web. This is the best wireless plan for her because she wouldn’t be stuck in a contract, and she’d be saving a few bucks a month. Texting and surfing the web on the phone would take getting used to, after a few lessons.

What I thought would be a quick run to the store turned out to be a hassle. This phone must be a hot commodity because the Walmart sales associate said they were sold out of Samsung Galaxy Exhibit Smartphones. So, I had to head back out into the freezing cold and drive to another location where they only had two left. The phone and starter kit cost me 135 dollars and change, which is a lot cheaper than my smartphone. If she wanted to add another line to the plan, there would be a five-dollar discount for the monthly service on that second phone.

The only confusing part to this purchase was that when it came to buying the first three months of service, no one seemed to know where to direct me. I was ultimately told by the customer service rep to contact the online account management and information.

I just hope that it’ll be an easy transition when it’s time for my mom to take over the monthly payments. She’s ol’ school when it comes to that too. I’ll be sure to post a follow up complete reaction photos after she opens up her Christmas present.

Do you know anyone who is reluctant to upgrade to a smartphone? If so, Why?

Non-Maternity Sears Fashion for My Baby Bump

Who says you have to shop maternity when you’re pregnant? As a part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias®, I put together this great black and white look from the Kardashian Kollection.

KardasianKollection #searsstyle

I’ve been known to rock a cute maternity ensemble. But, I try to stick with regular clothes whenever possible. It’s not that I’m anti-maternity fashion. It’s just that I don’t like the idea of limiting my wardrobe. I like to stick with classic pieces that I can wear no matter what size I am.

Some folks believe that the Kardashian sisters are known for having reality shows. But fashion has always been their thing, with each having their own personal style.

Kim has a more daring fashion sense, often rocking curve hugging outfits. The petite one of the bunch, Kourney, seems to rock more conservative looks. Kloe tends to fall somewhere between her sisters, always finding great looks to match her tall curvy frame.

Out of the three, I fall somewhere in the middle too. I tend to be a bit more conservative like Kourtney. But there are times when I take risks, like Kim. Throughout my pregnancy I’ve been shopping mostly non-maternity stores, and this recent purchase at Sears is no different.

Sears

I’m nearing the end of my last trimester and with temperatures heating up here in New York, I want some cute summer clothes that will last beyond my pregnancy. I’ve always found Sears fashion to be affordable.

Normally, shopping online saves me a ton of time. But after scoping out the website, It doesn’t look like these dresses would fit.

Kardashian Women's Sleeveless Dress

I decided to do my shopping in person. I immediately see that there’s a clearance sale and make a b-line for the Kardashian Kollection.

Kardashian Black and White dress

I’m glad I stuck with my guns because after seeing this black and white dress above in person, there’s no way it would fit my growing baby bump. I’ve learned that the key to shopping while preggers is to stick with stretchy fabrics like this boat neck black and white dress.

Striped Dress Kardashian Kollection

Whether paired with a blazer, leggings, or worn alone, this would be the perfect look for the season. I find that this type of material is so forgiving. I don’t have to necessarily go up a size. But, the length may be an issue, so why not try on different sizes?

Sears

Even though both dresses fit ok, I decide on the small because there may be some shrinkage after washing.

Not only do I leave with a nice summer dress, I also save a bundle through the shop your way rewards program. It doesn’t get any better than that!

Sally Hansen: #IHeartMyNailArt

I’ve always enjoyed getting manicures and pedicures growing up. Every weekend I’d set aside time to paint my nails. I loved experimenting with different colors and designs. But as I got older, life got busier. I no longer had time to pamper myself. But I plan on making an exception as I welcome baby number two into the world this summer.

When I was pregnant with Princess, I made sure I had all my ducks in a row. The hospital bags were packed, the take home outfit was picked out, and the car seat was installed weeks before D-day. Since I had no time to hit up the nail salon, my hubby did the honors of giving me weekly pedicures (I couldn’t bend down after a while). But, getting a manicure was the last thing on my mind.

Now that baby number two is on the way, I plan on being mani/pedi ready for our family’s new arrival. So, I wanted to begin experimenting.

With my Walgreens balance reward in tow, I made a bee line to Walgreens. Since we decided not to find out what we’re having, I wanted to stick with gender neutrals.

When it came to choosing which line to go with, the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips were a no brainer. I’m a career mom who’s always on the go. I have no time to sit and wait for my nails to dry. These sweet strips can last up to ten days and can be removed with nail polish remover.

Here’s what I did:

Step 1: Take off plastic.

 photo IMG_3054_zpsa8c35bf5.jpg

Step 2: Peel off second strip to remove the strip

Step 3: I gently pushed my cuticles back
 photo IMG_3058_zpsa340ae13.jpg

Step 4: gently apply the nail strip from the bottom up, making sure to smooth out air bubbles.
 photo IMG_3064_zps83165ff8.jpg
Step 5: File away the excess

Step 6: The nail art pen didn’t work quite well with the strips. So, I applied nail polish and tried a cute design.  Here’s the finished product. Not bad for my first try.

I still have three months before D-day to perfect this technique. I hoping to really have it down by then. In the meantime, I decided to pair with this outfit.

My daily fix

With queasiness down to a minimum during my second trimester, there are still moments when my tummy can use a little relaxation. A cup of hot tea usually does the trick.

I’ve always been a tea drinker. In fact, I remember going to my friend’s house for tea and cookies every weekend back in the day. It was our special time to bond. Now that I’m a working mom, tea continues to be my daily fix. It’s been my saving grace during both pregnancies. I go through at least six cups a day. So, it’s important for me to always have a stash of Bigelow; my tea of choice.

Photobucket

I realized that I was out of green tea with lemon. So, I decided to make a pitstop at Walmart with Princess to re-up on my supply.

Photobucket

It took me a while to locate the tea aisle. Thankfully, a sales clerk pointed me in the right direction. I was pretty surprised by the limited selection. Either these babies were selling like hot cakes or the folks at Walmart were being stingy with how much stockpile they put out on the shelves. They must have wanted it all for themselves.

Photobucket

I was a bit bummed that they didn’t have green tea with lemon. But, I was happy with cozy chamomile and clearly Princess enjoyed cozying up with the box.

Photobucket

It was just a little over 2 bucks a pop. Plus, it came with an extra 4 more tea bags. Gotta love a discount!

Photobucket

These snapshots brought me back to when Princess was an infant. Whenever she’d have an upset stomach, I’d put some warm chamomile tea in a bottle to help calm her down. With number two on the way, my tummy is in need of calming too. I usually brew a nice hot cup for a few minutes before bedtime every night, and drink it straight up.

The one thing that sets Bigelow apart from most other brands is the convenience of the individually wrapped packets. I put a few in my purse, and brew them at work. It stays so fresh that I can usually get two cups out of one tea bag.

Photobucket

I also love the string. Call me lazy, but the less I have to wash up, the better.

Photobucket

The next time I make a purchase for #AmericasTea I may have to hit up their website. They have an option to buy in bulk so I wouldn’t have to worry about the store not having my flavor of choice. They also share some interesting information on Bigelow tea, including brewing tips.
