I don’t want to toot my own horn, but I am a rockin’ mama! Even though I’m still fairly new to motherhood, I’ve been doing pretty well balancing career, school, being a wife, as well as being a mom to my beautiful little Princess. I run a pretty tight ship in my household. While weekends are spent with my family and prepping for the week, a usual weekday is jam packed with work, studying, cooking just to name a few. Hey, I’m no grouch! We make sure we sneak in some fun whenever possible.
By the end of the day I ask myself, “How the heck do I do it all?” I can’t take all the credit, and I’m far from perfection. Princess has a wonderful daddy and grandma who are there for her, when mommy has to work. Plus, she has a wonderful daycare where she learns a lot, and has made tons of friends.
The help didn’t just appear out of nowhere. I began planning for her arrival months before she got here. I researched daycare centers when I was just a few months preggers. At five months in the womb the first payment had already been made. There was also back up child care in place (aka Grandma) for the extra few hours mommy and daddy had to work.
Some people may call me obsessive or over the top. I rather consider myself prepared. I learned from other moms who rock, including my own mother. With four kids and very little money, she managed to raise four kids and hold down two to three jobs at once. Leaving Jamaica was tough for my siblings and I, but I’m sure it was a lot harder for my mom. I can remember how upset she was after being mugged on the bus. She had been on her way to work, when someone snatched the gold chain right from her neck. I also remember the time she came home telling us that she caught someone with a hand in her bag. Despite these moments of adversities (there are plenty more I can’t get into), she still worked hard to continue her nursing career and raise her kids. I think that’s where I get my resilience and diligence from. Sometimes I wonder how she managed to cook almost everyday, work multiple jobs, and take care of us. There are times I can’t even prepare a meal for my family because I’m so tired.
Mummy, as we call her, has done a great job raising her kids, and now she helps out with her grand babies. She still works full time, but my baby girl can count on grandma to pick her up from daycare everyday. I guess a mom’s work is never done.
There are so many other moms out there who rock! They deserve to be recognized for their awesomeness. Periodically I’ll be giving shout outs to rockin’ mamas in a series called “Rockin’ Mamas!” If you know of any, hit me up!
This is a series about moms, but there are others who possess mom like qualities who deserve props too. Moms, grandmas, grandpas, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, etc. If you’re a mom who rocks, I wanna know! I would love to feature you on my blog!
