When Your Toddler Says, “I Got a Pretzel in My Nose!”

What do you do when your little one casually announces, “I got a pretzel in my nose?” You try your best not to freak out, of course! Like most toddlers, my daughter (a.k.a. Princess) is always finding ways to get into mischief. From scribbling on doors to leaving tiny handprints on walls, I thought I had seen it all. But nothing could prepare us for the day she decided to shove a pretzel up her nose.

It happened in seconds. The moment we heard those frightening words, my husband and I sprang into action.

“Grab the tweezers!” I told him, while I quickly sterilized them with alcohol. We sat Princess down on the floor, and I could see the worry in her dad’s eyes. But there was no time to panic.

“Stop inhaling, honey. Just try to blow your nose,” I told her. That obviously didn’t work. So while Daddy gently held her head and arms steady, I attempted to extract the pretzel.

Princess fussed a little, but she didn’t cry. Honestly, I took that as a good sign—no tears usually means no pain. After a few careful tries, I managed to pull that little piece of pretzel out with the tweezers. It was only about half an inch long, but wow—what a relief.

Thankfully, we avoided another emergency room trip. And while I hope this is the last time she experiments with putting food where it doesn’t belong, something tells me this won’t be the last wild story we’ll have to tell.
