If you’ve been following my blog and vlog, then you know that I’ve been having some serious hair issues. Since my hair loss announcement, and I’m happy to say that I’ve been making some progress. I’ve got my edges back!
Okay, I admit that I have a ways to go, but it’s progress. I can’t complain because my hairline has come a long way. I’ve taken the necessary steps to promote growth. Thanks to those who chimed in with their advice and remedies. Recently, I’ve been contemplating ways to enhance my progress even further, and I’m starting to consider restoration such as PRP hair restoration or seattle hair restoration and getting a transplant like this hair transplant in Ft. Lauderdale, FL as a potential option.
Here’s what I’ve been doing to regrow my edges.
1. Moisturize. I have extremely dry hair and it tends to break easily. I apply oils throughout my hair and edges in the morning and night. I share some of my favorite oils on my YouTube channel.
2. I traded in my wig cap for a satin scarf. As I mentioned, I wear a wig at work. My hair has been through a lot of damage before I decided to go natural. Wig offers protective styling, but it can also lead to breakage. I think my hair loss was due to my hormones going out of whack as a result of my pregnancy. However, the wig cap didn’t help the situation. I also sleep with a satin scarf to protect my hair from drying out at night.
3. Avoid brushes and combs. Brushes can be hard on my hairline. I’d rather use my hands to smooth the area and then put my satin scarf to tame it.

I totally feel like my hair is falling out– I will totally stick to the “Avoid brushes and combs.” Smoothing my hair back sounds like a better idea! Thanks for sharing!

This is helpful. Now that I’m wearing Bantu knots to help stop using heat and retrain my curls, I think using castor oil on my edges is a good idea. My edges are long but a bit thin. I think stress and hormonal changes are big catalysts. Heat as well. I just ordered my satin pillow case so I’m going to start using that. Thanks for the tips! Hopefully we can help each other “grow!”

It is? Your hair looks great! Brushes and combs irritate my scalp. I’m very tender headed and so is my daughter. I don’t brush her hair either. I do more finger detangling. If I need to comb, it’s usually with a wide tooth comb.

I’ve been sleeping with a satin scarf for so long, I would feel weird about just sleeping on a satin pillow case. Lol. I may give it a try though. I use castor oil pretty much every day. I love it!! My hormones play a huge role in the changes my hair has gone through, and I age too (I think). Your hair looks great curly!

Great tips! I like using garlic shampoo/oil, biotin and my satin pillowcase (and I even bought an extra for travel!). My 3 1/2 year old doesn’t like caps on her hair so she has a satin pillowcase too. Since going natural I’ve noticed my hairline coming back in where before in a spot where I had chemical damage it was receding. I was SO concerned about that area but am glad it cycled back through to how it used to look.

Cool. I love biotin! I tried watching you on Dr. Oz in between newscasts, but I missed your segment:(
