How the Love Between Parents Impact Their Children

When I was a little girl, I had dreams of marrying Michael Jackson. So, when my daughter brought up the topic of matrimony, I expected her future husband to be someone from one of the animated shows she often watches. But, she caught me by surprise when she confessed that she wanted to someday marry her baby brother.

“I’m gonna marry him and kiss him on they lips,” she professed.

“Should I tell her that there was no way she could marry her brother?” I asked myself. Rather than break the news to my excited four-year-old, I played along with her plans.

“That’s great,” I replied.

“I’m gonna kiss him like you kiss Daddy,” she said.

For the record, it’s not like we tongue each other down in front of the kids. We do, however, give each other a peck on the lips and say “I love you” everyday.

I never realize she paid so much attention to our display of affection. Come to think of it, I’m glad she notices. I want her to know what a healthy relationship looks like. Every day Princess insists on dropping off her baby brother. She hugs and kisses him on the cheek before their departure. It may seem a bit creepy to some, but it works.

Eventually she’ll figure out that she can’t marry her baby brother. But, I hope the two remain close. I can see how much they’ve bonded over the past year. They’re thick as thieves.

It’s gonna be a long time before either of our munchkins tie the knot. When the time is right, I only hope that they fall in love with someone who loves them just as much as my hubby and I love each other. It goes to show that the love between parents can impact their children in a positive way.

How close are your kiddos?

That’s really sweet how much your daughter loves her baby brother. Rest assured, three or four years from now, she will react with horror when you tell her that she once wanted to marry her brother. LOL

My sister, when she was little, really loved horses and said that she was going to marry one. She’s much older now and happily married to a man, not a horse. LOL
