Why I Decided to Sign Up For a 10k Run

I’ve been contemplating signing up for a 10k run. But every time I decided to commit, something stops me. A co-worker convinced me to register for a 5k about five years ago. After finding out that I was expecting Princess, I continued to train. I’d run a few miles a day for about four to five days week. However, the further along I got in my pregnancy, running became more difficult.

I’ve heard about pregnant women running throughout their entire pregnancy, but I wasn’t one of those moms-to-be. It wasn’t because I was lazy. The pressure of the baby on my pelvic area became too unbearable. I’d run in the morning, and then spend the rest of the day in pain. I eventually decided to listen to my body, and call it quits.

It took my body a while to recuperate after giving birth. But once my body healed, I decided to try again. I agreed to run a 5k. But within weeks of training,  I became pregnant with baby number two. You can imagine what happened next. As I did the first time around, I had to throw in the towel. I was already caring for a tot, taking classes, and working full time. I barely had energy to get up in the morning, much less go running!

Now I’m back to square one again. The other day my co-worker, Lori Chung,  approached me about joining her in a 10k run next spring.

Her eyes beamed with excitement. “We should do it,” she said.

“Every time I decide to sign up for a run, I end up getting pregnant,” I replied.

Despite my reservations, it didn’t take much convincing.

“Okay, I’m gonna do it,” I responded.

I haven’t seen the inside of a gym since I returned to work from my maternity last fall. Now, I face the challenge of preparing for this 10k run. It’s time to get back to using gym equipment such as that treadmill for sale.

So, why have I decided to do this? Well for starters, this is long overdue. Prior to having kids, you’d always find my on a track or in a gym. Running is a great way to stay in shape and blow off steam. But most importantly, it’s about setting goals and working towards accomplishing them. Let’s just hope this doesn’t lead to baby number three. We’ve already got our hands full with two. Wish me luck!
