For our Curly Hairstyle of the Week, we wanted to do something special for the holiday. So, we decided on Valentine’s Day heart shaped Dutch braids.
When it comes to styling Princess’s hair, simple works best. We don’t have much time to work with considering I’ve got two kids to get dressed and fed before heading off to school – not to mention getting myself ready for work.
Normally we can get her hair done in around five minutes. But, our Valentine’s Day heart shaped Dutch braids took about 15 minutes. Here’s how you can achieve this hairstyle.
1. Make sure hair is fully detangled.
2. Make a horizontal part from ear to ear. I find that using a rat-rail comb works best.
3. Keep the back section separated from the front with a hair tie.
4. Now make a vertical part in the front and use a hair tie on one section to keep the two sides separate.
5. Now you’re ready to make your heart shaped part. This may seem like an extra step considering we had to begin with a horizontal part. But, sectioning off the hair is so much easier, especially if your little one has thick hair.
6. Once you’re satisfied with the heart shape, you are ready to begin braiding. Be sure to follow the shape of the heart from the middle of the head to the ear.
7. When you’re finish braiding each side, connect each Dutch braid with your choice of accessory.
8. You can also combine braids and back section to make a ponytail.
So there you have it! Nothing says Valentine’s Day like awesome heart shaped dutch braids. Check out more curly hairstyle tutorials and share your styles on Instagram and Twitter with #weeklycurls.
How did you style your kid(s) hair for Valentine’s Day?
David the writer says
Nice hair! I’m showing this to my wife for my daughters. My younger daughter often likes braids, especially so that her hair is krinkled when she takes them out, but this design is perfect for today.
