It seems like every toy in our house runs out of power every other day. That said, I always find myself running out to Walmart for a re-up.

Energizer has new EcoAdvance Recycled Batteries  that are available in in both AA and AAA. This is the first battery on the market to use recycled materials. I hear that it’s Energizer’s longest lasting alkaline ever, which is great considering my dilemma. I can’t exactly explain to my 19-month-old why his toy no longer has sound. It’s either deal with a crying baby or buy new batteries.

The latter is obviously the way to go in my case. I only had a half hour to drive to the store and back because my husband had a movie date with our daughter. Luckily, the EcoAdvance Recycled Batteries were conveniently located at the checkout counter. But, since they only had two packs left, I made a quick run to the standing display to pick up some more.

I was able to make it back in no time flat. Our son’s toy was working again, my hubby and our daughter arrived at the theater on time, which now leaves me with a messy house to clean.

As a working mom, cleaning often falls by the way side. So whenever I have a moment to catch up, I take full advantage. When it comes to sprucing up the place, it’s best to do things the eco-friendly way according to Adriana Torres, CEO of Cleaning Services West Seattle.

I’ve come with simple steps to greener living, which include making my own non-toxic cleaning products and using a rubbish bin singapore.

I wouldn’t want to run the risk of my little ones breathing in or consuming harmful chemicals. Therefore, I use household items like vinegar mixed with water for getting rid of the dirt and grime that coat our kitchen floor. Baking soda also works wonders on countertops. If you want to replace your old countertops, then you may consider installing new marble countertops.

Another great way to live green – turn off the lights when no one is in the room. I know it seems pretty elementary, but it’s so easy to forget sometimes.

We also use compact fluorescent light bulbs, which lasts much longer than regular bulbs. Our daughter is a stickler for making sure we adhere to our lights out policy.

I’m also thinking of upgrading our water heater with the help of plumbers who can provide water heater installation and plumbing services. I’ve learned that there are now water heaters with various energy efficiency features.

Speaking of Princess – this little girl has so many clips, barrettes, and headbands that I’ve lost cost. Rather than throw away empty jars and containers, we re-use them for hair accessories.

Going green is something I’ve been doing for years. As a kid, my siblings and I used to gather all the cans and plastic bottles and take them to the grocery store to get some money back. Years later, my family has adopted that same tradition, and Princess likes to help out in our recycling endeavors.

And last but certainly not least, eating organic. Just thinking of the pesticides that are often found on our food worries me. It can affect animals, pollute our lakes and rivers, harm the fish we eat, which can also effect our health.

Moving here from Jamaica has been certainly an eye opening experience for me. We don’t use pesticides or any other harmful chemicals in our food back home. I didn’t truly understand the difference until I became an environmental reporter. Our actions can truly affect our health and our planet.

While it’s impossible to live totally eco-friendly, these steps can help us all reduce our carbon footprint one day at a time.
