I remember when I first learned about preschoolers being allowed to have a prom. Princess was an infant when she started daycare. I couldn’t help notice the “Under the Sea” decorations as I walked into the building to drop her off.
“What’s with the decorations?” I asked.
“It’s for the prom,” someone responded.
A prom for four and five-year-olds? I couldn’t believe it. One staff member went on to describe the elaborate dresses and suits worn be these pint size individuals. How cute and scary, I thought to myself.
On the one hand, it’s a nice idea for the kids to have a last hurrah before heading off to kindergarden in the fall. But on the other hand, it all seems a bit much.
Now it’s our little girl who is a senior getting ready to graduation and the moment is bitter sweet. I’m so happy to see her move on to the next phase in her childhood, but a part of me also wishes she’d stay a kid forever. This is all moving way too fast.
She had her graduation last week, followed by prom this week.
To think, I thought having a pre-k prom was a bit over the top. But it turned out to be so much fun. Princess had a great time running around and dancing with her friends. My hubby and I accompanied her while Grandma stayed home with O.
So if you asked me a few years ago whether or not preschoolers should be allowed to have a prom, I’d say absolutely not. But after attending our first pre-k prom, I say absolutely! Years will come and Princess will be wearing one of those mermaid prom dresses 2023 for her junior/senior prom. I am so excited to see her!
Princess wasn’t the only one celebrating an important milestone. Our nephew graduated eight grade. Our niece graduated high school and will be attending college on a full scholarship in the fall.
