As a child, heading back to school meant getting a whole new wardrobe. But with three other siblings, filling my closet with the latest fashion items was impossible because we couldn’t afford it.
Rather than break the bank, my mom focused on getting a few classic pieces that would last throughout the school year and beyond.
Now that I’m a mom, I’m sticking to that tradition. Even though we are not struggling financially, I’m always coming up with ways to save. When it comes to her little brother O, extending the lifespan of his clothes is a bit trickier. He’s been able to get more wear out of his long sleeve shirts and sweaters simply by rolling up the sleeves. However, turning his jeans into capris aren’t as fashionable. But I’ve noticed him fitting comfortably in most of his bottoms since being potty trained because he no longer has a bulky diaper. It’s certainly important when heading back to school because when you look good, you feel good and when you feel good, you do good too. This mantra has help me throughout my childhood and my career, and I’m passing along that same message to my kids.
