Challenges of Training for a Half Marathon

There are many challenges of training for a half marathon. It’s been a few weeks and I’ve already had some minor set backs. But despite those hiccups, I’ve been able to soldier on.

For starters, I was called in to work the early shift the other day just as I was getting ready to run and had to stop in my tracks. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the grueling hours of the news business, working early means waking up at 2am.

So rather than start training for a half marathon, I had to spend that time prepping for the following day and hitting the sack early.

When I got home the next day, I was extremely exhausted – not to mention I had to help Princess with her homework, cook dinner, meet writing deadlines, and get everything ready for the next day. I knew that I’d miss a training day, but two days?!

By the 3rd day, I was somewhat back to normal. But finding the energy to run was pretty tough. I had to dig deep to find that desire to run again.

Here’s how I’ve been able to overcome these challenges:

  1. Reschedule training time. I’ve had a pretty good training schedule, but I didn’t consider having to deviate from the plan. Missing another day would have set me back, so I made sure to pencil in my workout time.
  2. Coordinate with family. Even though I’m the only one in my family running a half marathon, I feel as if they’re all training with me. This means shuffling our schedules around a little in order for me to train.
  3. Prioritize. A huge part of sticking with my workout is to prioritize. If I don’t, then it’s impossible to complete steps one and two. If you want to be able to workout anytime in your home, you may invest in your own gym equipment and order them from suppliers of Reliable Pre-Owned Fitness Brands.

I know there will be more challenges along the way. It will get tough, but I know I’ll get through it.
