Braided Valentine’s Day Heart on Curly Hair

Valentine’s Day is all about surprising the ones you love with a token of how much you appreciate them. But why not surprise your little ones with a cute Valentine’s Day hairstyle?

We received tons of compliments last year when we did the Valentine’s Day heart shaped Dutch braids.

But, some moms I spoke with couldn’t figure out how to part their daughter’s hair into the shape of a heart. I must admit, it took a few tries to get the shape I wanted. But once I had it down, the rest was easy.

Fast forward to this year and we’re in the same boat, only this time, we kept things very simple. Our easy braided Valentine heart only took 5 minutes to do.

Here are the tools you’ll need if you decide to give it a try:

Wide tooth comb

Rat tail comb

Elastic bands

Gel/moisturizer

Hair accessories

Bobby pins

Spray bottle with water

How to achieve the braided Valentine heart on curly biracial hair

  1. Part hair into two sections.
  2. Secure the top half into a ponytail using an elastic band. Don’t make it too tight.
  3. Separate the ponytail into three even parts and braid each section. You may need to use a hair clamp to keep sections in place.
  4. Once you’ve finished braiding, pull the two end braids through the elastic. You can use the rat tail comb to help with this step. Be careful not to pull it through all the way.
  5. Using another elastic band, secure the lower part of the braided sections into a heart shape.
  6. Optional: pin the braided sections in place using Bobby pins. The middle braid should also do a great job at holding the heart in place for busy little girls who are always running around.
  7. Optional: finish off with a cute hair accessory.

This braided hairstyle is great for school or any special occasion. Feel free to let your little girl’s curls hang loose by using your favorite hair styling products for curly hair. You can also secure the bottom half into another ponytail for a different look.
