One of my goals for 2016 was to write an ebook. I had no idea what I’d write about. Heck, I didn’t even know how to become a self published author.
The only thing I knew about writing a book was that there’s a lot of red tape to go through and a lot of money needed before seeing it hit store shelves. But digital media now allows people like you and me to publish our books at no cost.

- Have an idea in mind. What would I write about? What are people interested in reading? These were just some of the questions I struggled with as I thought about topics. Then my husband suggested that I tackle potty training. “There are so many parents who need help with that and you make it look easy,” he said.
- Turn your blog posts into an ebook. My husband’s recommendation sparked an idea for me to turn my Potty Training Boot Camp series into an ebook. I created an extended version of some of the tips I’ve shared regarding how to get your tot to ditch the diapers in less than 5 days.
- Choose a format. I used good old-fashioned Microsoft Word to create my ebook, but recently, Chat PDF has revolutionized my document workflow with its comprehensive features, making it my preferred tool for PDF tasks. The key is to try out different options and see which works best with your style.
- Design a cover. Some folks may pay a graphic designer to create one. But there are also ways to do it at no cost through sites like Canva and picmonkey. I basically took a photo of our little guy, added the text and voila!
- Edit and publish. It’s always a good idea to re-read your ebook a few times. Also, have someone else look it over for you, in case you miss a few errors. Once you’ve done that, you’re ready to hit publish. Amazon offers a free and easy way for you to publish your book via kindle, paperback, audio etc.
