Bun hairstyles are my favorite when it comes to protective styles. We’ve come up with a double dutch braid bun updo that is pretty easy to do. It’s a great way to retain moisture, especially during cold seasons.
But, it’s also a great hairstyle that can be worn for any occasion. If you have a little dancer like I do, then it’s the perfect updo for those ballet classes.
Double Dutch Braid Bun Updo Tutorial
What you’ll need:
Spray bottle with water
Fine tooth comb or brush
Large tooth comb
Hair pins
Hair ties
Gel or edge tamer
Instructions:
Start by parting the hair on either side. Then split the middle section into two parts.
Make sure the curls are fully detangled. I use my fingers to get rid of the knots before using a wide tooth comb.
After detangling the curls, section the hair into four parts before beginning the first Dutch braid on the top section.
I like to work on wet hair because it’s much easier to manipulate and less painful for my tender headed little girl. It’s a trait she got from her mama.
You don’t have to braid the entire length of the hair.
Use a hair tie to pull hair out of the way and work on the other section. Then repeat the Dutch braid on the bottom section.
Gather all sections into a ponytail when you’ve completed the dutch braids.
Smooth each side using a fine tooth comb or soft brush. Then braid the ponytail and create your bun. Since my daughter has long hair, I’m able to just wrap the braid around the base of the ponytail. But, if your little one’s hair isn’t long enough, you can also use a bun maker.
Once you’re done, pin in place, apply gel or edge control and voila. You’re little one is good go!
