Our curly hair routine varies depending on the time of year. Anastasia usually sports wash and gos during the spring and summer months. But everything changes when it comes to her winter curly hair routine.
Moisture is key no matter the time or year. However, we focus more on keeping her curls very moisturized during cold months when the air is less humid. That means we tweak the types of products we use as well.
But switching hairstyle products isn’t our only focus, It’s also important for kids to take over hairstyling duties. Now that I’m back to work full time, Anastasia often takes care of her own hair.
She demonstrates her updated winter curly hair routine in this video tutorial. Plus, we demonstrate a simple hairdo for our curly hairstyle of the week. Please subscribe to WeatherAnchorMama on Youtube for more curly hairstyle tutorials.
Winter Curly Hair Care Tips
She begins by rinsing her curly hair with water and cleansing with
Carol’s Daughter Almond Milk Shampoo and uses her fingertips to gently massage scalp. Anastasia follows up with the Carol’s Daughter Almond Milk Conditioner. This product is great for adding moisture and repairing damaged hair, which is extremely important during cold winter months. Anastasia carefully applies the conditioner throughout her strands while finger detangling from tip to root.
Finally, she uses a t-shirt to take the excess water from her curls and reduce frizz. It’s less rough on the hair than towels. We then follow up by applying Kinky Curly Knot Today, Curly Chic Coconut Oil and Curly Chic Moisture in a Minute to lock in the moisture.
How to Style Curly Biracial Hair
Since returning to work full time, I find it easier to style Anastasia’s biracial curly hair the night before. When it comes to styling, braids are the best option as the mercury falls. Why? Because it’s a great way to retain moisture. We usually choose braided updos. As I explain in the video, keeping her hair up prevents it from rubbing against her clothing which can also cause tangles and take away the moisture from her curls.
She sleeps with a satin bonnet and scarf to keep the style in place. Anastasia also wears a satin lined hat on cold days to retain moisture to biracial curls.
