Essential Oils Natural Hair Benefits

Essential oils have many benefits. It’s known for healing and soothing properties. But, it’s also great for promoting hair growth. My natural hair journey wouldn’t be a success without it.

There’s a lot of power that comes in each bottle. The oils are derived from plants through distillation or evaporation. Some countries often use essential oils as homeopathic medicines. For example, adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil to a diffuser can clear up congestion. When it comes to caring for your curls, essential oils can add shine and strength to improve your hair health. There are so many to choose from, but here are some of my favorites.

Best Essential Oils for Natural Hair

Lavender is known for its relaxing properties. If the kids are having a difficult time sleeping, I’d just put a few drops on their pillow and it eases their anxiety. But, lavender can also speed up hair growth. Its antimicrobial and antibacterial properties can improve the health of your scalp.

Peppermint promotes hair growth during the growing phase. It contains menthol, a natural chemical that gives peppermint its taste, smell, and cool feel. In fact, that cooling sensation treats and prevents dryness, itchiness, and other scalp issues.

It’s antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties make it a good remedy for hair loss. Menthol brings circulation to blood starved hair follicles.

Clary sage has linalool and linalyl acetate. These chemical components are known for its calming and soothing properties, which are also found in lavender. When it comes to hair care, this essential oil promotes healthy-looking hair and scalp.

Some naturals prefer to wear their hair stretch, which may involve applying heat. Using heat overtime may cause split ends and breakage. Applying clary sage will keep your tresses feeling stronger.

Geranium is known for its perfume scent, but it’s also great for improving the appearance of hair. Native to South Africa, it contains citronellol, a monoterpene alcohol that repels insects. This essential oil leaves hair with a bright glow.

Tea tree oil comes from the Melaleuca alternifolia plant. It’s anti-inflammatory helps to reduce dandruff and prevent hair loss. A few diluted drops of tea tree oil will stop product build up in its tracks. The moisture retained will keep curls healthy, moisturized, and prevent hair loss.

Eucalyptus oil is packed with nutrients providing relief to the scalp. Eucalyptus oil also stimulates hair growth because of its natural nourishing properties. This is perfect for when your scalp becomes itchy or irritated. You can add a few drops to your scalp or dilute it by adding water. This will soothe and awaken those hair follicles.
