My husband and I recently celebrated our wedding anniversary. I thought about the perfect anniversary gift and MJ the Musical came to mind. I can’t believe how much time has passed since we met. The wedding is the best day I ever experienced, and thankfully we hired the best Richmond wedding photographer to capture our special day.
We were in college working at call center. Music was always the focal point of our conversations. He and I would talk for hours about our favorite musicians, including Michael Jackson. After getting up the nerve to ask him out, he beat me to it and we’ve been together ever since.
People always ask how we’ve managed to stay together and maintain such a healthy relationship. The answer is simple. Friendship, communication and loyalty have always been the foundation.
I wanted to celebrate our wedding anniversary by paying homage to one of our favorite artists and our union.With a run time of 2 hours and 30 minutes, including one intermission, MJ the Musical was everything we imagined. It was a night of fun, laughter, and dance as we honored the King of Pop.
Michael Jackson is hands down one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Jackson’s unique artistry is perfectly captured throughout the Tony award winning Broadway show. The production focuses on making of the1992 Dangerous World Tour featuring flashbacks of his childhood and the early years of his solo career.
As the musical’s website states, created by Tony Award-winning director/choreographer Christopher Wheeldon and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, MJ goes beyond the singular moves and signature sound of the star, offering a rare look at the creative mind and collaborative spirit that catapulted Jackson into legendary status.
We have always been Michael Jackson super fans. My husband and I were prepared to dissect everything from the actors’ cadence, dance moves and unique vocals. I must say, we were pleasantly surprised at how well the actors performed some his greatest hits.
It wasn’t your typical Broadway show, at times it seemed more like a concert. Like other musicals, the same basic rules applies. However, MJ the Musical offered a more relaxing experience than other productions we’ve attended.
A Few Recommendations to Maximize Your MJ Musical Experience
I would highly recommend MJ the Musical. If you do plan to see the show, here are a few things you should know:
- Children must be at least 5 years old to attend,
- The ushers have cushions on hand to allow small children to see the amazing show.
- Infrared headsets for sound augmentation are available at the theater, free of charge. But, you will need photo ID to get it.
- MJ merchandise is available both in-person at the Neil Simon Theatre as well as online.
