One of the hardest parts of being a working mom is trusting someone else with your child’s care. For the most part, I’ve been really happy with my daughter’s daycare. The teachers have always been attentive, and Princess has made great friends. But like most parents know, there are moments that test your patience and make you question everything.
Finding a few random bruises here and there? I usually chalk that up to toddlers being toddlers — kids play, run, and fall. As long as it’s nothing serious, I can handle it. But the call I got from my mom the other day was different. It pushed me over the edge.
Now, here’s the thing about my mom: she tends to worry about everything — from whether Princess is wearing a hat (even when it’s 75 degrees outside with barely any sun) to making sure she’s always bundled up. But this time, her concern was more than justified.

They Sent My Baby Home in a Dirty Diaper
She told me that Princess’s diaper hadn’t been changed in hours. Hours! It was so full it leaked through her onesie and bloomers — in this record-breaking heat. And to make it worse, this was the second day in a row. I was furious. Before my mom could even finish explaining, I hung up and called the daycare directly.
“To have a toddler sitting in a dirty diaper, leaking everywhere, is absolutely unacceptable,” I told them. The staff apologized profusely and promised to address the situation, but honestly, that doesn’t take away the frustration. I know her regular teacher leaves early in the day, so someone clearly dropped the ball.
At the end of the day, my baby is fine — but it still hurts. Being away from her while I work is hard enough without having to worry about her basic needs being ignored. It’s moments like this that remind me how difficult it is to find the perfect balance between career and motherhood.
And just so you know, this isn’t the end of it. I’ll be having another conversation with her daycare to make sure this never happens again. Because when it comes to my child’s well-being, I don’t play.
On a brighter note, I recently discovered Karen’s Nanny Agency. They connect families with trusted nannies who truly care about a child’s welfare. Knowing that there are reliable options out there brings me some peace of mind — and for any mom juggling work and family life, that’s priceless.
