Valentines Day: Nothing wrong with keeping it simple

My hubby and I usually don’t go all out for Valentines Day. Most times he’d get me roses, we’d go out for dinner, and call it a day. I’m always stuck on stupid when it comes to buying his gifts. Since his birthday is close to Valentines Day, I normally save the bigger present for his birthday.

This year we were both out of ideas. I took to Facebook and Twitter to request gift suggestions. Ultimately, the hubs and I decided to just go out to eat. But, someone said something to me the other day that made me think twice about not exchanging gifts.

When I asked a colleague what he and his wife plan on doing, he said that they really don’t do an exchange. Then he went on to say that he usually buys his own presents, ask his wife to wrap it, and then make sure they do a swap in front of their daughter.

“I don’t want her to think that not getting or receiving a gift is normal,” he said.

That’s when a light bulb went off in my head. He was so right!

That night I went out and bought my hubby some biscuits.

He loved it! In fact, we both loved it so much that we stayed up last night getting our grub on. Soon after, he whipped out an arrangement of fresh roses, a balloon, and a card. He always puts me to shame. I didn’t buy a card for him. ugh

When Princess woke up this morning, she went right for the balloon.

“Daddy bought this for you,” I said.

Her face lit up like a Christmas tree. She insisted on calling him at work to say thanks. I also snapped this pic of her looking so happy!

Most kids would rather get a sweet treat. But, my little girl is in total bliss over this balloon.

Now I just have to come up with something good for my hubby’s birthday. I’m at a loss. I’m open to suggestions.
