Do we really ever get what we want on Mother’s Day? I’m not saying it ever sucked. But, I’m not exactly jumping over the moon either. Put it this way, my previous Mother’s Day have been ok. My hubby chips in way more than he normally does, you’d think I’d be satisfied. After all, there are a lot of Fathers out there who don’t. So, why am I feeling extra greedy this Mother’s Day?
Maybe it’s be it’s because I’m always working, studying, and always taking care of the kids. I know. I know. This is what I signed up for. Don’t get me wrong; I love being a wife and mom. But there are those moments when I feel like I need a little extra pampering.
Saturday morning I woke up to the sweet smell of pancakes. I thought for sure my hubby read my recent BabyCenter post. So, I waited for my breakfast in my double tv bed. After about 15 minutes, I realized that there was no breakfast in bed. So, I got my fat ass out of bed and made a b-line to the bathroom.
“Want me to make you some pancakes?” he asked as I began brushing my teeth.
“Awww. Sure. You’re so sweet,” I answered. I secretly rolled my eyes, signed, and rinsed the rest of the toothpaste out of my mouth. Then Princess ran into the bathroom as I was getting ready to use the potty, almost knocking me over with a big hug. She then handed me the macaroni necklace she made with her Grandma at school, and insisted I put it on immediately.
It was a little after 11am, and I realized I only had a few hours to get the house in order before my brother and sister-in-law came over with my niece and nephew. What I thought would be a quick clean up, ended up taking much longer. It was as if a tornado touched down on our home. There were toys strewn everywhere. I thought I’d get some help, but that didn’t happen because my hubby decided last minute that he would be working from home. Needless to say, I was on my own with this F1 twister cleanup.
By the time I was done, I was exhausted. To make matters worse, my brother and his family was stuck in traffic. Do I try and take a power nap or just wait it out? At that moment Baby O needed my attention, so there was no time to sleep.
They finally arrived and the kids turned the house upside down. There was no escaping the F5 tornado that barreled through each room. The kids ran for cover, while the grown ups were left to brave the elements and pick up the debris.
Despite the wreckage, we all had fun. Later that night my hubby and I loaded up the kids, and went out for dinner. They were cranky, but we made it through our meal just fine.
Well, my official Mother’s Day is just beginning and I’m hoping my hubby catches the hint. I praying that he surprises me with a trip to the spa, breakfast in bed, and a spotless house. But, I realize that’s not gonna happen. But, a girl can dream.
Happy Mother’s Day to all you hard working Mamas out there! Our jobs are never over, and we don’t get breaks. Being a mom is a 24/7 job. Despite my whining and complaining, I love it.
