Do you think Stay-At-Home Moms Have it Easy?

I can’t front. There are times when I fantasize about being a stay-home-mom. How hard can it be? All you have to do is feed them, change their diapers, and put them down for nap time. You also have to make sure they don’t hurt themselves or destroy the house. Think that’s easy? Think again!

When Princess told me that she needed to take a shower before school, I knew something was up. She complained about being hot, and it wasn’t just because of the weather outside. I reached for the thermometer and took her temperature. After I heard it beep, I looked down to read the result. She had over a 101 temperature.

As luck would have it, both kids were under the weather. So, I decided to keep them home. Contrary to what some people think, being home with two kids on a normal day is tough. Staying home with two sick kids, while trying to get work done is even more challenging. But, I managed to put a plan into action that worked. I’ve summed them up in three steps.

1. Improvise. With a baby and a preschooler, following a schedule can be tough. They both have completely different routines at school. I kept them on the same breakfast and lunch schedules. But when it came to activities, I made sure to set up different play areas (sort of like an obstacle course) for Baby O, and different assignments for Princess. They would each rotate to the stations.

2. No TV. They don’t watch it school. Why should they watch it when their home sick? However, Princess was allowed to play learning games on the ipad and vtetch. While I play fun888asia games online.
3. Nap time. We’re a bit lenient on the weekends, when it comes to taking naps. But with all the playing and learning these kids do, nap time is a must. By noon, both were down for the count. But, Baby O didn’t last more than 20 minutes. He was always getting into something.

It was a busy day. I got some work done, and I’m glad to be able to spend the day with them. They’re both feeling better, and should be returning back to school tomorrow. It was nice having a taste of being a homemaker for a day. Princess and I even surprised her Dad with homemade brownies.

Stay-at-home moms definitely have their hands full. It’s not easy. But, if I were home with the kids full time, I’d feel confident that we’d settle into a nice groove.
