How We Spent Labor Day Weekend

It’s the unofficial end to summer, and while most people flock to the beaches over Labor Day weekend, we chose to avoid it all together because of the crowds. With all the heat and humidity, we wanted to get the kids out of the house. There was no point having them cooped up inside all day. I did a quick search online of things to do close by. “We can go to the nearby museum and go for a nature walk,” I said.

Princess was super excited, but the look her Dad shot me said it all. “I want to do something fun,” he said. Once I told him that the kids would be free, and tickets would be three dollars a piece for adults, he was game. The best part about going to the museum was that we didn’t have to pack a lot of stuff.

I threw a few things together including diapers, wipes, water, sweaters, light snacks, stroller, sunscreen, and then we hit the road. The minute we walked through the museum door, I knew we made the right decision. We were one of three families there, so going through the exhibits was a breeze. Princess even enjoyed a scavenger hunt.

She also loved petting the animals.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get far with the nature walk. The minute we ran out of pavement, I punked out. Plus, not even bug spray could keep the pesky flies away.

We grabbed a bite to eat instead and later went to the park. We plan on keeping things simple on Labor Day too. Besides, the rain may put a damper on outdoor plans.

How are you spending Labor Day weekend?
