Chocolate was probably my first sweet treat as a child. Whether served hot, cold, or solid, I savored every bit of it. Maybe it’s the sweetness or jolt of caffeine that does it for me. I don’t know. It’s just so damn good. My hubby and I have that in common. We somehow passed our love for chocolate on to our children. We recently stopped by Chocolate Kingdom in Orlando, Florida for a tour to learn about the history of cacao and satisfy our chocolate cravings.
Before the journey began, we enjoyed some chocolate trivia. Here are a few fun facts you probably didn’t know.

Serendipity in New York City was credited for making the most expensive chocolate dessert.
The difference between baking chocolate and regular chocolate is the former has no sugar.
Alfred Hitchcock used chocolate in the famous shower scene in psycho to simulate blood. The scene brought a whole new meaning to “dying for chocolate.”
You have to eat 14 chocolate bars to get the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee.
Dark chocolate has antioxidants. You don’t get the same amount of nutrients if you add milk because it absorbs the antioxidants.
Chocolate melts in your mouth and hands because the cocoa butter component has a melting point that’s slightly below a human’s average body temperature.
White chocolate isn’t real chocolate if it doesn’t have cocoa butter listed as an ingredient.
These are just a few things we learned prior to our chocolate adventure. Then with the help of the Chocolate Kingdom tour guide, a handsome prince and his dragon sidekick, guests were guided through various rooms including a Cacao Tree Greenhouse, a one-of-a-kind Chocolate Museum, a Mystical River of Chocolate, and a Bean-to-the-Bar Factory. We sampled the popular treats, and learned how a bean transforms into a chocolate bar.
On the final stop of the 45 minute tour allowed we were able to customize a chocolate bar with up to three ingredients from 17 selections made fresh on the spot and delivered via a conveyor belt.
