Where do you take a kid who loves trains? The Holiday Train Show, of course! While you’re at it, stop by and check out All Aboard Thomas and Friends!
It’s been tough to coordinate the best time to take the kids this year. It seems like we can never figure it out between our work schedules and the kids’ school schedule. But, we were finally able to make it work when they were off from school on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
We made our way through the bitter cold temperatures to the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx to see the show. It’s a tradition that began 28 years ago. Popular New York landmarks like Central Park received updated look this year; complete with a winter wonderland backdrop.
There’s over 175 iconic structures representing the five boroughs and the Hudson Valley. The added bonus is that this spectacular display also gives back to the environment in more ways that one. The landscape is actually made from natural materials like plants, bamboo, and peat moss.
Not only were they able to check out the Holiday Train Show in its new digs, we also enjoyed a fun-filled adventure with Thomas the Tank Engine and Driver Sam at the All Aboard with Thomas and Friends Show.
I knew hands down that O’Shea would be totally into it. He loves and knows everything about Thomas and Friends. But, I wasn’t too sure about Anastasia. She’d rather spend her day making slime.
However, I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly she began participating in the interactive show.
The overall their of the show is to protect the environment by properly disposing of items and everyone had a chance to join in on the mission. The kids learned about composting, and the difference between upcycling and recycling. In addition, they learned that friendship is more important than winning.
You can check out highlights from All Aboard Thomas and Friends. We ended up getting lost at the New York Botanical Garden. But, it’s all good. We had fun nonetheless.
