What My Preschooler Learned From Thomas and Friends

I don’t make a habit out of comparing our two kids. But, it was obvious early on that they have completely different personalities. Our daughter has always been a social butterfly. Her brother, on the other hand, has always been a bit more shy. All he needs are his Thomas and Friends toy trains and he’s okay playing by himself.

He wasn’t making friends at school and that worried me. He used to cry just about everyday when I dropped him off at daycare. It wasn’t much different when he switched over to a new school this past September. He cried for almost two weeks at drop off.

He’s much calmer when Thomas and Percy come along for the ride. But, parting with his favorite toys wasn’t easy.

However, things changed when I received a note from his teacher asking about some of his favorite toys. Of course, I wrote “Thomas and Friends.” The next day she delivered, and drop off has been smooth ever since.

What My Preschooler Learned From Thomas and Friends

He’s learned a lot from Thomas and Friends. For starters, playing with his toy trains has allowed him to open up more. He’s gone from playing by himself to playing his other kids in his class. It’s also taught him how to share with other kids.

When it comes to changing batteries and fixing Thomas and Friends, he’s got that down too.

Our little guy also loves reading all about Thomas and Friends. In fact, we surprised him with a subscription to the Thomas and Friends magazine. He enjoys reading about the tank engine’s adventures everyday.

So if your little ones have a tough time opening up, see what they’re passionate about and go with that. I’m pretty sure it will help to break them out of their shell.

Educational Benefits of Playing With Toys

Children can learn a lot from playing.  When you give your child educational toys and play with them with her, it gives her a chance to bond with you, learn, and have fun at the same time.  And making education enjoyable will help your child retain the things she learns and develop a positive attitude toward learning.
