Breaking Point

I told my hubby the other day that if I was able to throw Princess from the car without harming her, and peel off- I’d do it.  I know it’s a weird and extreme statement.  As a parent, there are times when I feel like I’m gonna loose my mind!  I’m sure you parents out there can agree.  If you say otherwise, then you’re fronting big time.

Some mornings I can’t wait to drop Princess off at daycare, so that I can have some peace and quiet.  Is that selfish? No, quite the opposite.  I’d much rather her be in an environment where she is free.  She’s able to learn and play with her classmates all day.  That way we’re both happy.

The other day I heard about a 26 year-old mom who left her two young daughters on a street corner in Canarsie, Brooklyn.  All the little girls had were some diapers.  This story struck a cord with me.  Not because it happened it my old neighborhood, but because I’m a mom just like her.

There is absolutely no excuse for her actions.  But, I can’t help feel sadness for her.  It’s easy to say this woman is crazy.  On the slip side, what would drive her to do this?  I don’t know this lady’s situation.    But, I can honestly say that as a parent I know how it feels to reach a breaking point.

Let’s be clear- I would never hurt my baby girl in a million years.  Come on!  Who can resist this cute face?

However, there are times when I do get frustrated.  Rather than go to extreme measures, I take deep breaths.  When that doesn’t work, my hubby is quick to swoop in and take over.  There are lots of challenges to parenting, and we have to do the best we can.  No matter how upset I get, it certainly isn’t worth abandoning my child.  I just wish this lady would have gone for help, before leaving her beautiful little girls on the side of the road.

Have you ever reached a breaking point?

We’ve all been there at least once.

My husband and I have three children. An almost 8 year old son, who is in that phase of thinking he can make his own rules and tell his sisters what to do. He’s testing boundaries by talking back and or yelling at us and it definitely pushes my buttons. We also have twin girls who are almost 6. One of them has just gotten into the phase of back talking, fit throwing when she doesn’t get her way and laziness. She wants everyone to do her homework for her or give her the answers, doesn’t want to do her chores, etc. She’s playing her helpless card a lot lately.

I find myself dropping everything I do and just picturing beautiful scenery and happy music when I’m reaching that point. Lol

Good luck. Hope you have a breaking point free day! 🙂

Stacy this is why I love love love you!!! You keep it alllllll the way real!!! Hell yeah I have had breaking points and luckily you were just a phone call away. I still have them once in a while but Cam is old enough for me to tell him exactly how I feel. He thinks I’m joking (I am) and he just laughs at me but he also knows that it’s time to leave Mommy alone. As far as the lady in BK, I initially was disgusted with her but then I felt truly sorry for her. I can only imagine what it’s like to have 2 small children and not have a friend or family member that she can turn to for a break. Yeah she was wrong for leaving them on the sidewalk but the flip side to this story could have been she drowned both of them in the tub or something way more horrific.

I almost did a blog post similar to this. I was telling somebody the other day, that I can totally see how some people harm their babies. When Aryana was very little, she cried A LOT! We think she had colic, either way, there were days where I would get so frustrated because I had no idea why she was crying, and there was nothing I could do to help! I mean even today, there are times when its frustrating, but like you said my husband is there to help, and I would obviously never hurt her! When she was little, he would come home from work and take over so I could get a break. I can only imagine how it would feel not to have anybody there to jump in.

Thanks so much for sharing your story! Yes, kids can be a handful. I wish I can say I had a breaking point free day. lol. Just got a call from Grandma. Apparently, Princess has been acting up. I’ll be having a long talk with her.

OMG! I have to keep it real.

That’s why I used to always tell you to call if you ever need a break. I remember watching Camster’s older cousin, who was a handful. You did a great job though. You always kept a cool composure. Even though he had his bad moments, Camster was still the best baby ever!!

I know it’s scary to imagine not having some extra hands to help out. I feel the same way. Princess cried a lot in the beginning and she cries a lot now. It does get overwhelming, but I try and stay calm the best I know how. You should totally write a post. More moms need to get in on this. It’s a great way to get it out!

I wouldn’t believe any parents that claim to have never had a breaking point. The key is knowing when to step away from the situation. This is a great post by the way, so real.

When I am at my breaking point, my husband will usually swoop in and calm me down. It is nice that I can always call my mother when I need a break.

    Great post!

Oh wow! I didn’t hear that news story. What a shame. I do reach frustration with Nia but I think it’s tied to nursing. She’s seriously obsessed with it! I was telling my husband just like I get tired of her sometimes I’m sure she gets tired of me. She tends to act out in social situation or when we have guests over but is an angel when it’s just us. I think it’s because she doesn’t want to share us! Anyway, my husband has been great about taking her out more so I can get things done. This was especially helpful with our recent move.
