You may remember my Getaway Dilemma post a couple months ago. I wrote about my hubby and I taking our first post baby trip. We are super excited and can’t wait to leave, but terrified at the same time. I know Princess will be fine. We plan to have her spend some time with grandma and Auntie Sophia while we’re gone. As I mentioned, the plan is to get her comfy at her home away from home (aka grandma’s house).
So far, we’ve managed to stick with the plan. Princess has been spending more nights alone in her own bed. In fact, she slept for about eight hours straight the other night. I was shocked! It’s definitely progress, but we have a long way to go.
Princess has also been spending more days at grandma’s. We finally got over another hurdle by having her stay the night this past weekend. Since I’ve been suffering with laryngitis for the past few days, it was the perfect time to put plan number three to the test. Her daddy and I made sure we packed up all her essentials, including a cute outfit for church. I also made it a point to pump a couple of bottles for when she wakes up asking “boobies?”
I knew this wouldn’t be easy for her, so I kept my cell phone close by. Even though I wasn’t feeling the greatest, I was ready to run out of the house, get my car, and peel out of the drive way if my mom called in a panic. But, that never happened. Why would it? My mom raised the four of us. She knows exactly what she’s doing. Aside from the refusing to go to bed even though she’s tired text I got from my sis, I think everything went well.
I knew it would. I guess the mom in me worries though. Hey, I’m only human!
Princess will continue to spend more days and nights at grandma’s leading up to our getaway. The more comfortable she is without us there, the better. We won’t be able to just fly back at the drop of a hat because she misses mommy and daddy. But when it doubt, there’s always FaceTime!
