Curly Hairstyle of the Week: Braided Bun Updo

On the heels of our J.Lo inspired hairstyle, I’ve been trying to figure out a way to do a cool braided bun updo for the last few weeks, and I’ve figured it out.

We recently saw Cinderella and I was inspired by her wedding day bun updo. So, we decided to do something like it.

I’ve seen this style on straight hair girls, and those with curly hair may blowout their curls. But, I wanted to avoid heat all together. Here’s how we achieved this look.

1. Normally, I begin with damp hair. But this time, I decided to start off on dry hair to work with more volume. It’s important to carefully comb through the hair using a wide tooth comb (from the ends to roots). PLEASE NOTE: When detangling curly hair dry, you may have to apply a product to assist with detangling. Be extra careful not to cause breakage.

2. Once hair is detangled, leave a section of hair free in the front and another in the back. Gather the middle section into a ponytail and add a bun maker.

3. Using a rat-tail comb, smooth hair with the comb while french braiding around the bun.

4. Once the braid is complete, use a fine tooth comb to smooth hair making sure bun maker is hidden.

5. Wrap the remaining braid around the bun and add bobbi pins to secure.

Our curly hairstyle of the week took about 10 minutes. Not only is it great for any special occasion, it’s also a great protective style.
