With the rise of interracial couples and marriages, is there a higher tolerance for people having relationships outside of their race? But, how people respond to interracial couples is the topic of our Couples Chat.
As of 2014, the number of Americans who were in favor of different races marrying each other increased 24 percent from 2010, according to Pew Research Center. Judging by the stats, we’ve come a long way.
The number of people marrying outside of their race continues to grow, so multiracial families like ours are becoming more common. In 2013, a record-high 12% of newlyweds married someone of a different race, not including marriages between Hispanics and non-Hispanics.
My husband and I are fortunate that we haven’t faced many problems, but there have been moments when our relationship was called into question. I remember some people taking offense to us being together. There have also been the occasional racial hate spewed on the web, which made me angry. However, we refused to let ignorance affect us.
People respond to interracial couples in so many ways. My hubby and I discuss this subject a bit further in our Couples Chat.

I wanted to start off saying I love your site, I am in a long term inner racial relationship with an adorable 2 year old daughter and a new baby on the way. We live in the south and do get stares here and there. I decided a long time ago to not let that get to me. They would be the ones still upset hours later not me. We have really had one situation that was truly uncomfortable. On the way back to NC from his hometown in mid-south Georgia we stopped for a break pretty late at a waffle house. ..that is all that was open. My boyfriend went to the bathroom while I grabbed a table for us. Two black couples mid 30’s I guess..made the comment (pretty loudly) we better be glad we are not some where they still hang you for that S**T. It blew my mind! I grabbed his arm when he came out of the bathroom and said yeah this is not the place for us let’s go NOW.

You and your family are beautiful! I love your story of how you met! God bless you both. I hope your marriage grows stronger and stronger each day. I believe God put you both together. The bible says when a man finds a wife he finds a good thing. Jesus Loves You!
