Blog Goals for 2016: New Year Resolutions to Keep

How many times have you come up with New Year resolutions that don’t work out? Well, I’ve done it way too many times. That’s why I prefer to set goals for the upcoming year.  new-year-resolutions-goals

Earlier this year, I came up with a list of blog goals for 2015. My site was in desperate need of an overhaul. I started with rebranding and redesigning WeatherAnchorMama.com. Since then, I’ve seen my blog reach new heights, and also got some awesome career opportunities.

Ever since I decided to quit my full-time weather gig to become a stay-at-home mom, so many doors have opened up.

My boss offered me a freelance position, allowing me to continue doing the job I love so much. I scored a cameo on NBC’s hit show Mysteries of Laura starring Debra Messing, which cause a bit of a dilemma that we were ultimately able to work out.

In addition to career accomplishments, I’ve made some blogging achievements as well. Since the redesign, I’ve gotten some amazing opportunities to work with top brands like Hallmark Gold Crown, Fox Searchlight Pictures, Colgate, and Huggies to name a few.

I’ve even managed to keep my creative juices flowing by signing on as a contributor to Mom.me and continuing my relationship with BabyCenter. But it didn’t stop there.

I also joined the Periscope bandwagon! Not only did I sign up to the live streaming platform, I also attended Periscope Summit in NYC and rubbed shoulders with social media gurus.

While we’re on the topic of gurus, I also went to Blogher2015 and got to hang out with some amazing bloggers who have made blogging their full-time jobs – something I thought was impossible.

I’ve got a long way to go before I can make blogging my career, but I’m fortunate to have come this far. Most importantly, I’m grateful for the opportunities it has also allowed my family, my husband included.

We actually started a Couples Chat series on YouTube that’s been picked up by mom.me. The Curly Hairstyle of the Week series featuring our 5-year-old has led to some pretty awesome opportunities including an ambassadorship with CurlyKids Hair Care, as well as an ad in People Magazine.

Since then, Princess launched her own YouTube channel featuring kid-friendly crafts, recipes, fun science projects, and more.

Not only has blogging become a business, it’s also brought our family closer. Working with my husband and kids has further tightened our bond. That said, I’m so excited for what  2016 has to offer.

  1. Get organized. I bought myself an organizer for Christmas and I plan to put it to good use. Blogging is fun, but it’s also very tedious. My schedule does get hectic, so staying organized is key.
  2. Focus on quality content. I plan on sharing more tips and offering insight to topics that matter to parents, and aspiring journalists.
  3. Sticking to a schedule. I often find myself blogging into the wee hours of the morning. I plan to get more done in the morning and leave time for myself and family in the evenings.
  4. More sponsored content. I don’t want my blog to become wallpapered with adds and sponsorship posts. But, there’s nothing wrong with a nice balance.
  5. Finish my ebook. I’m in the beginning stages of my ebook and I’m looking forward to offering WeatherAnchorMama readers more amazing content.

Thanks so much for riding with my family and me these past few years. I’m so excited for what’s to come in 2016.
