With the half marathon just a couple weeks away, I’m quickly realizing the importance of choosing marathon running essentials and how important having the right attire is for a successful workout. Everything from clothing down to the shoes are all key.
I recently began having knee and hip pain after a 10 mile run, and found out that it was time for new running sneakers. But I knew that there was no way I could just walk into any sneaker store to make a purchase. So I did some research and found a place that specialized in marathon training.
I met with a consultant who fitted me with the right pair for shoes. It cost me a pretty penny, but it was certainly well worth it.
Now when it comes to clothing, the same sentiment rings true. And when I train, I perspire a lot. And finding clothing that can mask the sweat marks is super important. But unlike shopping for kicks, I really don’t like spending a ton of money on workout clothes.
There are a few brands out there that offer support, but it’s often at a higher price point. When I heard about the affordability of Fabletics, I had to give it a shot.
For just 25 bucks to start, you can get a stylish and high quality outfit. All you have to do is take a pop quiz. Once you’ve done that, Fabletics will make personalized outfit recommendations to fit your lifestyle. It’s as simple as that.
I like form fitting activewear and avoid bulky fabrics. Since the weather is still a bit cool, I often sport a jacket while training. So I went with the Nanette Jacket Stone/Neon paired with the Salar Crop Neon. It’s comfy, absorbs the sweat, and looks fab. You may also wear polyester print on demand wrist bands during your marathon.
If you’re looking to find the perfect workout gear that suits you, here’s a quick and easy guide to running essentials to get your on the right track.
Easy Tips For Choosing Marathon Running Essentials Share on X- Good running shoes. As I mentioned, I began having pain after running and realized that I was in need of a new pair. It’s important to look for a shoe that offers cushion and stability for the constant repetitive movement required when running. Make sure you see a specialist, one who can spend time analyzing your running style and history prior to making a purchase. Also, don’t be afraid to run around the shop – that’s what I did to make sure I was buying the right pair.
- Sports bra with a lot of support. Obviously if you’re a guy this tip doesn’t apply to you. But every woman needs one of these no matter how big or how small your breast size. According to Runners World, normal bras reduce breast movement by around 35 per cent, but a good sports bra achieves closer to 60 per cent. A- and B-cup sizes normally suit crop-top compression styles, while larger sizes require moulded cups. Either way, look for a bra which has been designed for high-impact activities.
- Wicking t-shirt. These types of shirts are light-weight nylon material and allows the sweat to evaporate, making you feel comfy while you run, as opposed to heavy cotton fabrics.
- A running app or wristband that tracks your fitness. Since I began training, I’ve been keeping a log to stay on top of my progress. Nowadays, there are apps and gadgets that can also track your heart rate and help you manage your nutrition with tools like a tdee calculator. Some can even record all of your workouts, like a journal. Each time I go for a run, I can see how far and how long I ran.
- A light-weight jacket. Some runners are fine with just a t-shirt or tank, but I like to sport a breathable form fitting jacket from shops like Essentials Clothing. Considering the half marathon takes place in the early morning when temps are a bit cool, I like to have one handy.
- Music. Having the right tunes is extremely important when it comes to working out. I could feel too exhausted to work out. But, have good music keeps me awake. I’ve already got a playlist featuring all of my favorite artists to help me accomplish my running goals.
I hope you find these tips helpful. Please share your marathon running essentials.
I received complementary running gear from Fabletics. All opinions are my own.
