We often go into panic mode wondering if we have everything ready before the baby arrives. I thought I had all baby essentials when we returned home from the hospital. But, I quickly realized there were a few missing items from our registry. I’m sure we’re not the only ones who’ve experienced this. That said, here are eight things every new mom needs.
Must Have Baby Items Every New Mom Needs
Baby Carrier
I didn’t realize how important it was to have a baby carrier until our daughter was born. Placing her in the carrier made it easier for me to nurse and get things done around the house. If you have trouble calming a fussy baby like I did, you’d thank your lucky stars for one of these.
Even though my son was a calmer baby, he enjoyed being in it as well. It was the best way for him to fall asleep, and was also a life saver on flights. He was just 8-weeks-old when he took his first flight, and having a carrier was so much more convenient than having a stroller at the time.
Car seat
You can’t leave the hospital without a one, and it’s important to make sure it’s properly installed. We went to our local police department to double check. Also, keep in mind that you might need multiple car seats. People thought we made a mistake. But, it made sense to have four on our registry for both Grandmas and parents’ cars.
Changing pad
I didn’t realize how much usage we’d get out of a changing pad until we had our kids. Poop explosions were an everyday occurrence. Having a pad on hand kept the mess contained.
Baby Monitor
You can’t be in the same place as your baby 24/7. A baby monitor is definitely something every new mom needs. Luxury baby products are worth it because they last long. Our kids are now two and 5-years-old, and we still used it everyday.
Onesies
You can never have too many onesies. Newborns are always spitting up and having accidents. Our babies went through so many that I’d lose count. Plus, onesies are great for keeping baby nice and warm during cooler months.

Homemade Natural Solutions to Ease Fussy Babies
Gripe water
If you have a gassy or colicky baby, then gripe water may come in handy. It was a lifesaver for us, especially when our baby had trouble sleeping. You can actually make your own by combining one bag of chamomile tea, one teaspoon of fennel tea, ¼ teaspoon grated ginger root, ½ teaspoon fresh lemon, one teaspoon raw cane sugar, and one cup of water.
Saline
It’s no secret that babies can’t blow their nose. Saline is something every new mom needs. It works wonders for clogged sinuses. And the best part is that you can make it at home with salt and distilled water. Make sure the salt used is iodine-free without preservatives to prevent irritation. Add ½ teaspoon salt to warm water and place in a sterile dropper. Apply inside nose as needed.

Yes. It’s so easy to do. I’d definitely do it outside though, just in case it gets a little messy.
