Know your color pallet. In a perfect world, we’d all look great in every color. However, that’s not the case. I’ve heard some women say they try to avoid yellow because it washes them out. As a women of color with a darker skin tone, I dry to avoid wearing brown. I also seldom wear black. Jewel tones tend to read better on camera, and give my complexion an added pop that muted tones don’t offer. The right watch can also be used as a fashion statement. You can easily avoid a fashion faux pas by wearing clothing that’s right for your figure. If you’re pear shaped, a-line and wrap dresses are great ways to balance out your figure.
If you’re apple shaped, avoid horizontal stripes because they will make you look larger. Instead, always choose lengthening vertical stripes on your dresses or tops.
For a banana shape, work on highlighting your best assets. Peplums can help give off an illusion of a well defined waistline. Wearing a belt can also give off that same effect.

My Favorite Fashion Styles for Work
I hope you find these style tips helpful. They’ve have certainly worked for me. Lawd knows having a pear shape has many challenges.
For example, finding the right dress size can be tough. If I choose something to accommodate my larger bottom half, my top half is swimming in extra fabric. I opt for a-line dresses and stretchy fabrics that fit my bust line, while providing breathing room for my lower half. Similarly, finding a watch that fits well can be tricky, but I prefer customizable options like Durable Fabric Straps.
Wrap dresses are also my favorite style choice. I normally wear solid colors, but I’ve experimented with patterns that work just fine. If the fabric appears too bulky, I wear a belt to cinch my waistline for a curvier appearance.
Separates are also a great way to go. I’m able to rock a smaller top with a larger bottom for my size. There are times when I find amazing fashion items at a discounted price. But, they don’t have my size. I buy it anyway and get it altered at a later date. I refuse to pass up a good deal.
