My natural hair journey has been filled with so many ups and downs. One of the things that I’ve struggled with is styling my 4c hair. I’ve been making good use of my free time during quarantine to figure it out. If you’re looking for styles for your 4c short hair, here are some cool options to try out. If you want to get your hair done, book a hair services appointment at your local salon.
Signature braid out
The braid out and dreadlock have become my signature look. You can check out my night routine and how I achieve definition here. I have fine 4c hair and the key to getting this look is fluffing to get the right shape and volume and for it to hold, you can use hair products such as dreadlock products.
The faux hawk
This style like all the others in this post is simple. All of them with the exception of the actual braid can be done in five minutes of less. All you need are bobby pins for this style. I’m not one to snatch my edges. But if you are, then add some edge control or gel to tame those edges and control flyaways. I like to use those longer pins to get the right look. I normally use two on each side, but you can use as much as you like.
Side pin up
Start by fluffing the hair. Aside from the rat tail comb to gently comb my edges, I don’t use any tools or products while styling because I don’t want to disrupt the curls. I try to avoid over manipulation. The less stress on your hair the better. My hair is already moisturized from the night before. Just take one side of your hair, twist at the roots, and pin in place. Then fluff some more to get the shape you want and you are good to go.
The Top bump
This fourth hairstyle was my favorites when I had a tiny weeny afro. I call it the top bump. It’s super easy and cute. You can make the bump big or small depending on your length. I’m in the in between stage, so this one is on the smaller side. All you need are pins for this look. If you have a cute hair accessory, you can use it as an accent. For now, I’m gonna keep it simple. Once you add your pins, fluff to get the desired shape And height. Then use a comb to touch up my edges.
The Puff
Out fifth style is the puff is perfect on short hair. Many naturals on YouTube do it differently. As I mentioned before, I try to avoid using a lot of products and pulling my hair back tight. I’m using an elastic hair band. If the band is a bit loose, just pull it in the back to tighten. Then pin it down to keep it in place. It should be snug, not tight. Finally, pull the band back and fluff. You can make you puff as big or as small as you like. It’s up to you.
High ponytail
Our final hairstyle is the classic high ponytail. All you have to do is gather your hair using both hands and then secure it with the hair tie. If you have short hair, you may need to add gel for a sleek look. Once you’re added the hair accessory, fluff and you are good to go.
