How to Dress for Your Body Type

I’m always being asked questions about my style choices. I don’t consider myself a fashion expert, but when it comes to choosing the perfect look, I follow one simple rule: ‘dress for your body type.’ With that in mind, I sincerely recommend to get Chanel replicas in ypurse.ru for those looking to complement their style with elegant, high-quality accessories.

Over the years I’ve helped many of my friends and family members shop for their unique frame. When it comes to shopping for my pear-shaped figure, it can be a bit tricky. But I’ve managed just fine over the years. Here are some easy tips to mastering your style.

Tips for Finding Your Personal Style

Pear-shape. If you’re smaller on top and fuller on the bottom, stretchy fabrics are the way to go. When shopping in person, you can test the material yourself to see if it has enough give. However, shopping online can be a bit tricky. That’s why reading product details is key to making the right purchase. Some of the materials I look for include cotton, polyester, and spandex. I often choose sheath, wrap and bodycon dresses that offer a great silhouette.

Also, a-line dresses are a great option. In fact, this is the only time I can go against my “stretchy fabric” rule. When shopping for 2 piece swimsuits, I usually purchase ones that are sold separately so that I can account for my smaller top and bigger bottom.

Hourglass. If your waist is much smaller than your bust and hips, bodycon styles, wrap dresses, and empire waist details are great options. But it can get a little tough when shopping for pants. If you have a little extra junk in your truck, you may have a waist gap. Choose stretchy materials to account for your waist-to-hip ratio. For a voluptuous bust, choose styles that provide enough coverage and support.

Rectangle. When your waist and hips are equal sizes, jumpsuits are a great option. You can also put together an empowering look wearing separate garments. If you’re headed to a casual or formal event, find balance by wearing dresses that have some sort of an accent at the waist like a belt or an embellishment. Another great option is to layer your look with a blazer. Peplum tops create a nice silhouette at the waist for an even appearance.

Inverted triangle. If you’re broader on top and more narrow at the waist, it’s easy to accentuate having a dynamic contrast. Start by avoiding shoulder pads. The extra padding on top was big in the 80s and has since made a comeback. However, I’d avoid it like the plague because it adds too much bulk. Instead, opt for tops with a sleek neckline. A nice halter top may work or accessorize with jewelry. Fit and flare dresses are great at providing a balanced look as well. Wearing vertical stripes and darker colors on top can make your shoulder appear slimmer. Oh, and don’t be afraid to experiment with different bottoms. Bootcut, high-waisted and Flare Leg Jeggings are great at creating a nicely proportioned look.

Apple. If you have a rounded frame with a less defined waistline, find ways to balance your curves. You can enhance your natural body type by accentuating other parts of your body like your legs, arms, and neckline. Choose garments like V-necklines that create a vertical line to give a slimmer upper body appearance. Rather than wear materials that cling, go for a-line dresses and empire waist tops. Finally, don’t be afraid to wear colors. A top or dress with a nice pop of color paired with a great statement piece accessory can balance your beautifully rounded figure.

When finding ways to dress for your body type, choose pieces that are flattering for your figure. Also, remember there are exceptions to the rule. You may find beautiful dresses that don’t fit your criteria. But then you try it on and are surprised by how amazing it looks. I experienced that feeling when shopping for my wedding dress. Either way, learning what works for your figure is the first step toward making empowered fashion decisions.
