Just when I thought I had this natural hair journey thing on lock, the hair gods have thrown me a curve ball. I’m losing my hair again!
My last hair conundrum almost left me in tears. It was also a part of the reason why I decided to go au naturale – my daughter being the primary reason. I basically started all over.
With the help of my hubby, I chopped off all my hair to a teeny weeny fro (aka twa). It was one of the best last minute decisions I’ve ever made, and my locks never looked so good.
Wigs have become my go to protective style option during the week, and I usually sport a braidout on weekends. My hair has been getting much needed rest and tlc. In fact, avoiding heat and chemicals has allowed it to grow so much. It’s hard to tell by this photo, but my hair is actually shoulder length.
So you can imagine my surprise when I started noticing that my hairline disappearing.
This time I’m confused. I know it’s normal to shed hair post pregnancy. But, this is ridiculous. I’ve been taking my vitamins religiously, and eating right. I guess my hormones have a completely different plan.
It’s a bit disheartening, but I won’t stress over it. It’s only temporary.

You might find Prissy Mommy’s post-partum hair blog post helpful – I used the same products and had a good experience: http://prissymommy.com/2009/05/postpartum-hair-updates.html

Yes, you’re right. It’s only temporary. It’s crazy what our bodies go through. Being a mama is rough! 🙂

It’s probably the wigs. Depending on the type/how it’s worn it can be damaging to your edges. You might consider getting a sow-in and leaving your edges out.

Stacy-Ann! Are you wearing wig caps because they might be thinning out your edges. I have a good friend that recommended a substitution for wig caps. Its called WI-Grip. I haven’t tried it yet myself but she said that a certain sector of Jewish women use them so that they don’t lose their hair since they have to wear wigs all the time. My friend is a well-known actress so she wears wigs constantly but likes to wear her own hair when she is at home or working out. Let me know if this helps. I know it must be frustrating. Good luck. And congratulations on the new baby!!

Jamaican Castor oil, jamaican castor oil, jamaican castor oil. I cannot say it any louder or clearer. I am living proof it works . After 15 years of comb overs, doctors, pills etc. my hair is natural, full and strong.

I know exactly what you’re going because it happened to me after the birth of both my children and my hairline is still compromised greatly. And “disheartening” is exactly the word I used when I saw my hairline fading too. My son is almost 6 and my daughter will be 1 on January 25 and although my hairline has come back some it is by far not what it should be. I, too am going natural and will not let my hairline dissuade me from my journey and I’m glad that you aren’t either. Congrats on the baby and good luck with your hair journey. I’ve heard good things about bamboo extract for hair strengthening and growth so I’ll be trying that soon.

Do you think the shedding has anything to do with postpartum shedding plus still nursing? I started shedding at the same exact location around the same time, and our babies are both July babies! It’s annoying but it should be back to normal closer to their first birthday. I hope lol.

Yup! I’ve heard that too. Fingers crossed.
