So far, my journey to natural has been quite interesting. As I mentioned, I’ve been dealing with a lot of breakage which I think is mainly linked to post pregnancy hormones. The doc says it’s quite normal. You would think I’d be super depressed. Okay I can’t lie, there have been times when I wanted to curl into a fetal position and hibernate until my hair grows back. But that wouldn’t be realistic. Dealing with hair loss isn’t fun, but finding products to help my hair return to its natural bounce is. In fact, my hubby calls me a mad scientist because I’m always trying new things.
I’ll admit that I have been experimenting a lot. But how else am I supposed to find the right products for my hair?
I’ve been researching various natural hair care lines and someone mentioned Jane Carter Solution. Aside from being introduced to Nourish and Shine a few years ago, I haven’t tried anything else from the company. After doing some research, I decided to give Jane Carter a try. I couldn’t wait to try out Jane Carter’s Scalp Nourishing Serum, Hair Nourishing Serum, the Revitalizing Leave-in Condition, and Wrap & Roll. Here’s what I think about each of them.
Scalp Nourishing Serum claims to heal and soothe the scalp using natural and essential oils, botanicals, and vitamins. It’s suppose to reduce itching, flaking, and dandruff. It has cedar wood in it which is an anti-inflammatory. I remember Jane Carter saying (in her video blog) great hair begins with a healthy scalp, and that’s something I’ve been seriously lacking. I applied a few drops onto my scalp with the dropper. I immediately noticed he difference in the appearance of my scalp. After a few days, I had no more flakes!
Hair Nourishing Serum contains thirteen essential oils, vitamins, and botanicals. It’s supposed to deliver nutrients into the hair, de-frizz, and stop breakage. My biggest problem with any kind of oil is that it tends to leave my hair feeling weighed down. Rather than have a helmet head, I usually avoid it all together which has been a major mistake on my part. In addition to having dry scalp, eliminating oils from my hair regimen has also contributed to my hair chipping away. I love that both serums are light. It doesn’t leave my hair feeling greasy at all. I even love the smell. It reminds me of being at a spa getting an aromatherapy facial. It’s so relaxing.
The Revitalizing Leave-in Conditioner was made to protect against heat styling and sun damage. It’s supposed to be great for flat ironing and/or roller setting fine hair. I’m not sure if I’m sold on flat ironing my roots. I know a lot of peeps say that it’s a good alternative to make that slow transition to natural. But, I want to limit the amount of heat I put on my hair. It’s not to say that I won’t ever try it. I’d rather just use it to keep my roots soft to limit breakage for now. So far, it does the trick!
Wrap & Roll is a light foaming wrap designed to allow for a smooth and easy wrap; never leaving your hair dry and hard. It claims to also leave your mane looking shiny, soft, and bouncy. I’m not a huge fan of setting lotion or mouse in general. I applied some to my hair before roller setting. I found that it didn’t leave my hair as soft as I like it. But, it did cut my drying time in half!
Overall, I give Jane Carter Solution two thumbs up. There’s something for all hair types which is a huge plus in my book. As I continue my journey to return to my natural roots, I’ll be using more products from this line.
What’s your favorite hair care line?

I’ve never tried Jane Carter’s hair products but i always wanted to try the curl defining cream. I heard its supposed to replace the need for a moisturizing product and curl definer so it kinda makes up for the price but idk. $34 is a lot of money for it to not work. Maybe one day I’ll get the courage but right not I’ll just stick with using my shea butter, coconut oil and my Shea Moisture curl enhancing smoothie.

Shea butter, coconut oil, and Shea Moisture curl enhancing smoothie sound pretty good. I may have to give those a try some time. You’re right! 34 is a lot!

Great Review.. I am using the Nourish and Shine from Jane Carter, but I haven’t yet used her whole products on my hair. I am planning on using the Shampoo and Conditioner, but I wanted to wait until my recent shampoo and conditioner finishes first before I move on to a new one.. But I will definitely try out all of her products.
BTW.. have you ever heard of co-washing?? I was online last night doing some research about it.. It’s a conditioning wash, without the shampoo, to moisturize the hair.. and from what I’ve been reading and watching from you-tube videos, I heard that it’s very essential for the hair. I’ve mentioned before that I am too going natural next year, but I am also doing more research on maintaining the hair, products, styles, etc..

Thanks Lena!!
Yes! I’ve heard of co-washing! I almost feel that’s what Wen is. That’s the closest I’ve come to co-washing. It feels like it’s a conditioner only because it doesn’t sud, and it keeps my hair super soft. I actually co-wash Princess’s hair sometimes instead of using shampoo. I try to keep as much moisture in her hair as possible. I’ve been doing a lot of research myself. I feel like I’m getting to know my hair in a whole new way. Good luck on your journey!

Hi. I did the transition thing for a very short time. When my daughter was turning 1 in Feb 2012, I decided to go natural. At the time I made this decision I was getting my hair relaxed for her party! I thought since I would not allow her to have her relaxed I had to set the example! That was my last relaxer and transitioning was too much so I BIG CHOPPED in April 2012. Since then I have tried everything under the sun! I will say Jane Carter is one of the better ones. I’ve been using Nourish & Shine and Wrap & Roll for years with relaxed hair. I find that at different phases of the transformation, you will see that different products works. Right now, I am washing with As I Am Cleansing Pudding (I LOVE IT) and using the Kinky Curly leave in and curling custard.
I love your blog!

Thanks RElla! You are so right. I love J.C. scalp and hair nourishing serums. Those are my favs from that line. I find that the J.C. conditioner leave in worked better on my relaxed hair. I’ve been looking for As I AM, but haven’t been able to find them in stores. I may have to buy them on line. I also love the Kinky Curly leavin. I know my hair needs will continue to change as it grows.
