I’m only a few short weeks away from giving birth to baby number two. It still feels surreal. The impending arrival of my baby boy or girl makes me think of when I became a parent for the first time.
I’ve always taken care of children growing up. I was always the designated sitter for my niece and nephew. I enjoyed playing with dolls too. So I guess you can say that I’ve always had that motherly instinct.
But being a parent it completely different from taking care of other peoples’ children. I couldn’t exactly say, “Ok, I’m done. Let’s drop this kid off!” Having a baby doesn’t mean you get time off from being a parent (even when you send them off to daycare). I always knew that I wanted to be hands on, and continue working full time. It’s been tough, but I’ve managed just fine. I feel so fortunate to have the help of my mom and a wonderful husband.
However, I try to be there as much as possible because time flies! One day my kiddos will be all grown up and I’ll be left wondering where did the time go?
