Tips on Planning Baby’s First Birthday

It’s become a routine. I wake up in the morning, get the kids fed and dressed, then we hit the road. On our way to school we sing songs and play animal clouds before our arrival. I juggle multiple bags with the two kids in tow. We usually drop Princess off first, and then Baby O and I make a final stop at his classroom. But, this week has been completely different. Instead of dropping him off in the blueberry room, I’ve been taking him to the raspberries.

I sit him down to play with his friends and put his bottles and food away. Then his teacher informs me of his progress.

She mentions how well he’s been doing. He feeds himself well, and plays well with his classmates. His former teacher next door even points out how well he’s been standing. I look over and see him up on his two feet barely holding on to anything for support. I can’t believe this baby that I delivered just last summer has gotten so big!

He’ll be turning one next month, and I’ve been brainstorming ideas for his first birthday. The plan right now is to keep it simple. It’s not like when Princess celebrated her first. It’s no longer just the three of us, and we certainly have a lot more to balance between the four of us. I certainly don’t want to short change my son’s first birthday. But, we’re not exactly in the position to go all out.

What ever we decide to do will be great. No matter how big or small, it won’t mean we love him more or any less than his big sis.

How did you celebrate your baby’s first birthday?

I am pondering this exact same question with my 2nd son right now who turns 1 on July 10…we just moved to a new city, so we don’t have any other baby friends and I’m not sure what we CAN do to mark the occasion for him. Last year when my other son turned one we did a bash at the park and it turned out great with friends and family helping celebrate. Simple is key, especially at that age, but I know what you mean..because as Mommy’s we’re all about making memories! 😉

I love a kids party! I went all out with both my kids first birthday, since I feel like it is mostly for friends and family, kids don’t really know what is going on at that point. I held both of them at my house so I could serve alcohol! 😉
