1. The first step to detangling biracial hair is to try and prevent knots from happening in the first place. If you’re sporting a wash-n-go, tangles are bound to happen. But you can limit them by twisting or braiding hair before bed, and wearing a satin bonnet or scarf.

2. You can take out the twists or braids in the morning and follow up with your curly hairstyle routine.

3. Detangling curly hair may take time, but it’s all worth it when you see a full head of luscious ringlets. Believe it or not, I rarely use a comb. I safely detangle Princess’s hair with my fingers when her hair is wet. I start off with small sections and work through the hair with my fingers from the ends to the root of the hair. The key is to make sure there hair is saturated with moisturizing conditioner. I actually don’t comb through knots until the end because I’d hate to rinse her curls to later find more knots afterwards.

I find that using my fingers to detangle limits unnecessary breakage. When using my fingers, I’m able to isolate each knot and work at unraveling the strands. If I can’t get rid of them by hand, I’ll carefully use the tail part of the rat tail comb and gently separate. If all else fails, I may have to do a search and destroy. I’d rather snip the knot than risk breakage.

My hubby may also have to take over hair duties on occasion, and he says finger detangling is much easier than using a comb as well. Princess has a lot of fine strands and I have a ton of kinky coily ones. I find that finger detangling also works best for my texture as well.

Follow these steps and you’d have well Defined Wash-N-Go curls.
