Zipper Braid Hairstyle on Curly Hair

Zipper braid has been done on straight hair. But I haven’t seen it done on curly hair, so I wanted to give it a try on my daughter’s biracial curls. It’s also a cute back to school hairdo.

When it comes to this braided hairstyle, it can get a little tricky. Once you get the pattern down, it becomes pretty easy.

What You’ll Need

Directions

Start off as you normally would a three strand braid. Divide hair into 3 small strands. Take the middle strand and go over the left strand, then take the right strand and go underneath the middle piece. I have my daughter hold the right strand. Now, take a small section on the right side and continue the braid by going over the middle strand and under the left strand. Then I take the left strand and have her hang on to it.

Grab another small piece of hair from the left side and go over the middle strand and underneath the right strand. This is where it can get tricky. I’ll have Princess hold on to the right strand, reach underneath that strand.

Then take the original strand and combine it with the middle strand. Take some more hair from the right side to create a third strand. Go over the middle strand and under the left strand. She holds on to the left strand and I reach underneath the strand she’s been hanging on to on the left and combine it with the middle piece.

Repeat the process until you get to the base and make a ponytail using an elastic. Do the same to the other side, and you should have a zipper braid on each side. You can also add a cute hair accessory to both pig tails. Finish off the curly hairstyle with a curly defining hair product to make your little one’s luscious curls pop.
