Does the Easy Bake Oven Live Up to Its Name?

The Easy Bake Oven first came out in the 1960s. Since then it’s gained popularity among little girls. When I was a kid, I dreamed of having one. I’d see the commercials and imagine baking cookies and other sweet treats.

Now, the Easy Bake Oven isn’t only popular with young girls. Boys love it just as much too! One teenager began a mission a few years ago to convince Hasbro to get rid of the stereotypical pink accented oven and manufacture a gender neutral Easy Bake Oven.

The 13-year-old wanted to buy the oven for her 4-year-old brother, but was disappointed to find out that it only came with pink or purple accents. So, she started an online petition to change the model, and include boys in the company ads.

After getting over 40,000 signatures and support from celebrity chefs, Hasbro answered back by inviting the New Jersey teen to the company headquarters in Rhode Island to meet with the design team. The Hasbro execs showed her black, silver, and blue prototypes that appeal to both genders.

“I think that they really met most or even all of what I wanted them to do, and they really amazed me,” she said, adding that her little brother thought the new design was “awesome.”

Now my kids can both enjoy the gender-neutral Easy Bake Oven. My daughter recently got one as a birthday gift, and she loves trying out new recipes. She also has her trusty sidekick little brother to help out.

In case you’re wondering, the Easy Bake Oven really does work and it’s pretty simple to use too. It actually comes with real baking ingredients and we’ve also used our own personal recipes.

If you do decide to get one for your little boy or girl, the toy company recommends the product to kids 8-years-old and over. But my 2 and 5-year-olds use it with adult supervision.

Here’s a quick instructional video Princess did on how to use the Easy Bake Oven. Please give this video a thumbs up and subscribe to my daughter’s YouTube Channel, MyFunPrincessLife. You can also follow her on Tumblr and Instagram.
